This keyboard carries no internal backup battery, and I got this problem last week and it started working again but the problem surfaced a short time ago. Switch/button appears ok to me

Wild guess of possibilities.

1. Internal backup battery exhausted.

2. Button OR key is stuck down, either mechanically or electrically.

Not sure I was clear that I meant that ANY switch button or key was activated as power came on. This could either be a mechanically stuck button or key OR one that had an electrical defect... (it happens)

The firmware in these OFTEN scans the switches and keys during power on to insure that alll are in the unpressed state as a part of the power-on-test like is done on our PC's. ( You know that if you hold down a key onyour computer keyboard it fusses during bootup)

There is usually a special key sequence that is held down while power is turned on to do a factory reset of these units. SO they verify the switches are all normal while looking for the special reset sequence and would flag an error.

IF you happen to find a plastic button slightly sticking, use a bit of CRC226 to lube it. This is available in the electrical dept at Home Depot.

Repairing Yamaha psr-12

If the power adapter is not the original adappter- check to make sure the polarity is correct- it should be marked on the keyboard near the adapter socket, and also on the adapter itself.

The keyboard should have an internal fuse- check that. Then with keyboard open, if the fuse is okay, trace the power flow from the power pack and look for broken wires, bad solder connections, stressed components like bulging capacitors, etc. It may have a burned out zener diode in the power supply regulator portion of the main circuit.

I'VE A YAMAHA PSR S700. The problem is with it's screen. Whenever i start playing, the screen fades and then it comes and it goes and vice versa. This occurs almost two - three days a week. There...

Likely a connection to the backlight is being broken. Tap on the unoit and see if it pops back on. Illuminate screen with a flashlight and see if the characters can be seen when screen is faded. If they can, then the backlight is the problem... IF NOT then the display may be bad... This has been a problem and if you are under warranty, excersise it immediately... else replacement of the display is relatively expensive.

Hi, i think you can. You can go to any of the Yamaha companies around you area and explain to them the problem of the keyboard. They will give you good and quality replacement part for your Keyboard.

Make sure you go to only Yamaha company to avoid getting a wrong part for your Keyboard.Avoid road siderepairsforissue like this,it's more complicated to handle

I guess that will do.
