I have been on the computer for two days and all of a sudden it shuts off in the middle of using it and I thought it had something to do with the fan so I bought a fan for the computer that I could put under the computer and plug it into the USB port and use to help cool it off.
Thought that would help but it didn't so I tried to check the CHK/DSK/r/f in command prompt after it shut off on me the last time but that program ran for about 2 hours and it must of fixed something because next day I turned on the computer and it was doing well but all of a sudden it did it again and I just decided to restore system to about a month ago so that in case I loaded something I should not have but when I thought that was going to work it didn't...now the issue is worse, I went to restart after the restore was done and the screen went black and now I can't even do anything except get into F8 that is all that will show and whatever you do and the program goes through it just goes back to a black screen....OMG I am not knowing what to do now??
HELP PLEASE
Alright, I found some information pertaining to use of the recovery partition. It's far too long to post here, so I'll ask you to download the instructions from Toshiba.
1. Visit the Toshiba Support Website.
2. Press, "Product Support."
3. Click on, "Laptops," then click, "Satellite," then type, "A135-S2276" into the Model Finding Filter.
4. Click on your model and press GO.
5. Click on the second User's Guide link.
6. If the option is available, download the guide. Otherwise, scroll to page 58.
To ensure you're looking at the right page, this is a small piece of the page:
Getting Started
Hard Drive Recovery Utilities
Hard Disk Drive Recovery using the recovery partition
You have the options of recovering your system using the Hard
Drive Recovery partition to the factory-set default....
CAUTION: If you decide to use this method, all files that were saved to your computer since you bought it will be LOST! I only recommend this method if the files on your system are of no importance to you or if you have backed them up to some form of removable media (CD, DVD, Flash Drive, External Hard-Drive, etc...).
I'm posting this as a solution so that the link I posted will actually work. However, if this doesn't solve your problem, we can continue debugging the situation just as easily as before.
Let us know how things turn out.
Testimonial: "Very Professional and really cares about the persons needs!!!"
Yay. This is the first time i can say with certainty that i have the solution.
This issue plagued me for months, eventually getting to the point where my screen was going black every 10 minutes and the system was unresponsive to everything but a forced shut down/reboot. I finally found the solution on Toshiba`s website. The problem was completely resolved by a bios update available thru Toshiba. I`d post the link but I`m stuck posting via phone due to the unrelated issue that brought me to this thread.
If you do not have anyone locally who can look at the problem, I can do it for you. You will most likely have to do a complete new install of the operating system. I can try to access your documents folder and save those items before erasing the hard disk and installing the OS again.
You may also have a failing hard drive, which will require replacement. Again, the unit may stay up long enough for me to attach to the drive and off-load some files.
Contact me for shipping information if you would like.
I think your last post pretty much says it all....
If you aren't that familiar with computers, you can only make matters worse. Take it back to Best Buy and pay them a LOT of money (sorry Best Buy, but you guys charge WAYYYY to much for your repair services!!) to fix it for you. Or, take my advice and send it to me. You are going to have to pay someone, now or later.
My comments to you were not intended to be rude, and I apologize if you took them that way. But your own comments indicate that you were NOT familiar with computers - I didn't say that you did. Your description of your problem indicates that you have a very serious issue that may not be resolved by reading someones advice over the internet.
I try to offer the best advice I can without making the situation worse....in this case I believe that is all that will happen.
My comments about Best Buy still stand. I charge $78 for a diagnostic fee. Best Buy will charge you well over $100 for the same service....in my opinion (as well as others in the industry) they charge too much for what the offer - often because they have to hire someone else to do the work because they don't do the work in house.
I wish you well on getting your machine working again. And, again, please accept my apologies for any offense.

Hi
Did you try to go back to last known configuration in the F8 option
or the repair option
failing that try a system restore in the F8 option back to when it was running ok
failing that also you could try to get back into safe mode
go to start run/search box
type in cmd
this Will bring up a black box
type in CHKDSK
that should check disk and hopefully give option of repair disk as well
but it will take some time but be patient
Or try to get to the acer recovery
i have never tried the recovery in safe mode but it hopefully will except it then restart into the recovery management
this is where you find it ( in or out of safe mode )
start programs
acer
acer empowering technology
acer erecovery management
recovery
follow on screen instructions
good luck
hope you get sorted

Thanks and I will keep you posted about how the recovery went I am just about finished with it!!
Give me just a moment. I'll look at some documentation for your laptop. Perhaps I can give you some more information relating to system recovery.
There's two ways you can perform a complete system restoration. The first method (which I prefer) is to reformat the system. This method erases all data on the hard-drive then reinstalls Windows. The downside, you need a Windows installer disk, a registration key (provided with the disk), and all data on the disk is erased (if you can't back up any of your files, they're all lost). The second method is to use a recovery partition (typically located somewhere on your hard-drive). You generally access this by pressing a key during startup. Before the windows loading screen you will usually see a message such as "Recovery Options (F4)." Just press the key associated with the message and the recovery process should begin. NOTE: Toshiba typically provides you with a recovery disk or a recovery partition. If you did not receive any recovery disks, it's safe to assume you have a recovery partition. In that case, look for the Recovery message during startup.
Have you tried using Startup Repair? I really think some form of malicious software managed to get into system restore so that when you restored your system, you allowed the software to root itself deeper in your system. If startup repair does not solve the issue and you don't have important data on the computer, I would go ahead and perform a complete PC restore.
And when you press F8, are there any options for recovery? How about during startup, are there any messages displayed on the POST screen regarding Restore or System Restore (not to be mistaken with Windows' System Restore)? They would display before the Windows loading screen.
Once again, do you have the Windows installer associated with the Vista installation? If not, do you have some means of using a recovery partition to restore the system to manufacturer defaults?
I'm assuming the operating system is Windows Vista. Just a word of wisdom, NEVER use system-restore! That tool causes nothing but TROUBLE (as you now know). Have you attempted to use the recovery partition to restore the system to manufacturer defaults? Do you have the Windows Installer associated with the Windows installation on your system?
