A FL-4 error is an ignitor failure. There are three things that need to be checked to correct the issue. First is the ignitor. Replace if broken or burnt or cracked. Second is the 220/120 vac conversion plug that is plugged into the main board in the burner compartment behind the box cover. The black transistor may be burnt. Replace if burnt. This will happen often if the heater is connected with 220 vac power source. I highly recommend connecting to a 120 vac source if possible. The heater seems to like it more. But remember when switching power supplies to follow all manufacturers instructions on doing so. If after replacing these two items the FL-4 problem still occurs, the control board in which the conversion plug plugs into also may need replacement. This should correct the fl4 error.

Does the black transistor have a number or could a better description be given. Thanks

does this black transistor have a part number or could a better description be given. Thanks

The black transistor is part of the " power conversion plug"(part name). This plug is a small 1"x1.5" board that plugs into the main control board. I has two colored ends on it. One blue, one red. Also some older model heaters. Have in-line fuses on the wires going to the ignitor. Check to see if these are blown.

Rewired to 120 and flipped conversion plug around cause I just bought a vs pump with external timer. Heater fired right up. Thanks so much!!!

FL4 is an igniter error. You can attempt to repair it yourself following some of Jandy's remedy's from the owner's manual, found on page 40. Electronic heater ignition problems are generally better left to a pro. For a local service provider, try their search page here.

I have the FL4 error code. Replaced igniter and checked the fuses. Still doesn't light

FL4 is related to the flow in your heater, you need to check first if you filters are too dirty, remove then reset breaker and try again if it go away it was your filter being too dirty, if it doesnt it is most likely the PressureSwitch on your heater.

I have a handy lite2 LJ175N and I keep getting FL4 error code but the hot surface ignitor works if I run power to it from an outlet.

Maybe an open circuit at igniter?
Direct power at igniter, does not make it problem free when installed on the heater.
So many variables...
burned fuse for igniter, bad wire connection, broken wire within sheathing, etc,
all of these will cause a resistance change in ohms. Temperature is read by Heater logics in ohms resistance - both set temperature and actual temperature. So if resistance is off, heater may not work. Could be cracked igniter, or shorting to ground. When you remove the heater from igniter operation, by bypassing and installing a direct alternate power source, you are removing all self test features and safety aspect of heater.
FL4 usually means bad igniter - replace it.

Reset code 4

According to pages 34-38 of the installation and operations manual, FL4 is one of the codes that does not automatically reset itself after the fault is repaired. To reset the controller after an FL4 (or 6 or 7), press the "Select" button until the heater is off, wait a minute or two, and then press "Select" to put the heater into "Pool" or "Spa" mode. The heater should then go through the ignition sequence and function normally. NOTE: The manual also says that an FL4 code should be fixed by a professional.

Jandy Lite 2 heater won't ignite FL4 code?

So, you replaced part R367100 (Igniter)? This part if very susceptible to failure if touched. I would inspect and/or run a continuity check to make sure it has non cracks. Does it glow red when you attempt to start the heater? Remember, that is the how it ignites the flame, by getting red hot.

If it glows red hot, but does not light then I'd do the following testing in between;

Check that the inline fuses on the igniter aren't blown,

Check if the control board is sending a charge,

Check the flame sensor for gunk build up. Unfortunately to replace the flame sensor look like you have to purchase a whole new burner assembly to get a new flame sensor.

I also believe there is a toggle switch on the front door. It may need to be depressed before the system will ignite.

Fl4 problem, kenmore elite won't spin or drain anymore.

The Central Condrol Unit (CCU) receives it's data from an EEPROMonboard the CCU.
If there is an error reading this data, it will cuse this error.

A power glitch may cause this error. Try unplugging the Unit for two minutes to see if that fixes the error.
Check CCU

So its likely you'll need a new CCU board. Check your owners manual, some models have up to a 5 yr. parts warranty on that CCU.
