If you have a wireless router theres no need for any cables.
PS3's have built in wifi.
Just go to the settings menu and then scrool down to network settings and go to internet connection settings select the easy setup and follow the on screen instructions.

Can't get online to play this new PS3. The console is hooked up to the TV & Belkin Wireless router. The internet, computer and phone line are in a different room and can't reach to hookup. AT&T is...

There should be no HDMI cable to router. In any situation.

Try the following:

Turn off PS3 system..
1: Reset your modem by unplugging it from the main power source.
2: After a few minutes, plug modem power back into modem. Allow all connections to configure
3: Turn on PS3 system.
4: Go to "Settings" then scroll all the way down to "Network Settings"
5: Make sure that the "internet connection" (the second menu) is "Enabled"
6: Go to "Internet Connection Settings" and choose the appropriate settings. (What's highlighted is going to be the best option, continue to hit the right button on the analog to go through the stages.)

Be sure to choose "Wireless" when configuring the settings if you are using wi fi for connectivity.

Check your wireless network name in your computer if it is wireless enabled.
Then go to your PS3. Go into the network settings and check if the wireless connection is detected.
When you check the network settings, make sure that ip and dns settings are set to automatic.
After that you would need to open some ports on the comp for your PS3 so that you can play online.
Also let us know the make and model no of your router so that we could tell how to open the ports on the router GUI.
Very first thing your PS3 should detect the wireless connection on it.

Can you hook up the ps 3 to the internet router to get online with out using a computer

do you have a wireless router?

depends on how your internet is set up

but if your internet is set up like this

internet plug on wall>>>wireless router>>>>main computer

then you can connect to the wireless router without having the computer to be on

if you can use the wireless internet using a laptop then i dont see why it wount work for the ps3

if you dont have a wirekless router and your internet router has several eithernet ports then you can run a either net cable from the router to the ps3

I have no computer or cable and need to set up internet on my PS3

??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.

Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.

For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
