Gateway 450ROG No Sound

I've got a Gateway 450ROG here, the sound suddenly quit working a few months ago. I tried and tried uninstalling and reinstalling te sound drivers, no luck. Headphone jack does not produce any sound either. Reformatting the compute and reinstallin the sound drivers failed to work also.... I opened up the laptop and it appears that the sound card is built into the mother board. The laptop was hard enough to open, I cant imagine replaceing the mother board. Does anyone have any other ideas I could try to fix this problem? If not, hw hard would it be to rplace the motherboard myself? (I am currently in a pc managementand maintenance class, getting ready to tes for my A+ certidfication.... haven't covered anything on laptops yet and the book is vauge.) Any help would be greatly appreciaed

I was going nuts over this problem...Here is what I did and got the thing working.

1-unintall realtec97. These are not the right drivers for the gateway 450rog.
2-go to the bios set-up and load the default set-up(F9) and save. - DO NOT MAKE ANY CHAGES now or ever to the BIOS.. it seems that if you change any settings it messes up the sound.
3-reboot the computer and you should see windowss found new multimedia devices and it will install the Simatel C Major audio driver

YOU SHOULD BE GOOD.. good luck to all that had this terrible problem.

Hello .. Thank you very much . I was playing a music with my laptop and i tried to connect a ear pin for the speaker and all of a sudden the sound went off so you cant hear any sound . when ever i connect...

Plugging-in a set of headphones to the "audio-out" port *SHOULD* cause the internal speakers to become QUIET.

Unplug the headphones, to make the speakers work.

No sound in my gateway 450 ROG Notebook

You have probably lost the driver for your sound card. You can download the correct driver at under the downloads/notebook page.
Also, check in your control panel/device manager and see if there is a yellow flag next to your sound card, or if it is even there at all. If it is yellow flagged, uninstall it, then reinstall the new driver

Make sure it's not muted buy going into control panel and sounds. Check each tab under here to make sure they are all turned up. Also make sure you have the correct driver and that you don;t have any earphones plugged into the sound output ports.

Sound card

Before you go to replacing the sound card, start by uninstalling the sound drivers, reboot, the machine will find and automatically reinstall them. Then check Gateway's support site for any updated drivers. your problem may just be a driver glitch, it happens.

Sound Card Broken?

Im sorry to say it sounds like a surge in power is causing this issue. It would be interesting to see if an original power supply solves this issue. In any case I would get this checked by a qualified engineer to determine the exact fault (Use the repairman finder on this site to find one near you.)

Sound just stopped working

Try removing the drivers and reinstalling them. Otherwise, your sound controller may have bit the dust, in which case only replacing it will work.
