Check the jumper settings on the new drive drive,it should be set to MASTER otherwise it will not boot. Also check your BIOS settings to insure that the computer is seeing the drive.

Hard disk beeps at startup

Hi,

It can most likely be fixed, the only question is how much effort.

If' you're luck either the AC adapter or the circuit board in the Casing is dead. If you stop in at your local computer shop(assuming you don't have the tools at home) you can test the AC adapter with a multimeter. If it tests normal, then try moving the HDD into a new enclosure and test it.

If neither of the first two suggestions works then the issue lies in the circuitry of the actual hard drive. At this point you will need the help of a pro, if this is the case, comment back here with your country/state/city and I will recommend a pro in the region.

Does the hard drive interchange with other Averatecs?

Swapping hard drives only works if the hard drive is swapped into an identical computer with the same device configurations, CPU and RAM etc.
The best way to copy or recover data from a working hard drive is to insert the hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. You should see this drive as an external hard drive and you can then copy or backup the data onto the computers hard drive or USB memory stick etc.

Hello,

connect your hard drive to other computer and then have it clean by scanning with antivirus. and then copy the important files on it to the working computer. after copying the files thats the time to return back the original hardrive to the dell dimension and then reformat and reinstall the system again again. please use original operating from dell or what ever is applicable.

External hard drive not recognized

I recenctly bought a my book 500 gig drive and it is usb.
the firsttime I plugged the usb cable in it worksed. I had only a 40 gig ide harddrive and so I ordered an internal 500 wd hard drive to replace it. The internal 500 gig is a sata drive. first I cloned the 40 to the sata 500 and then copied the external 500 to the internal. I mover the cables to then make the internal 500 sata my boot drive. The computer would no longer show the external e\when i used the windows explorer. the device manager said it was there and working with no problem but windows did not see it.
After several experiments with diferent configurations I have concluded my motherboard wasauto configuring the external and internal 500 drives as drive 0. Since the usb was detected first and was notthe boot drive then windows assigned the internal drive as drive 0 and since the usb drive was drive 0 also it would not work. windows ignored it. my solution was to return the ide as the boot drive and plug the sata into a slave port. with that configuration both drive are seen and work normally. It took me several days to find this arrangement. so since my sata ports are auto configure and the external has a sata connection i will install an esata port adapter and try to hook it up as a slave sata drive so i cab\n use my internal 500 sata drive as my boot drive.
sorry this was so long but it is my solution to what others may be facing.
