My e series rainbow smells very badly... my teenager often leaves the water in for days and that nasty smell has saturated the sweeper itself. How do I get the smell out

You should always put a new hepa filter in any E and E2 series Rainbow vacuum, when it taken to a new home, or every two Years, or so, or if your Doughter makes it get funky smelling. :-) It will smell like the home that it was in, or how ever it smells, until you do.

You can also use fragrances, and deodorizer air freshener in your vacuum, which not only eliminates odors, it add fresh aromas to your air that you breath, in your home, also.

Replace the hepa filter first thing.

The water separator is the thing that spins in the center of the motor where your water basin attaches to it. It looks like a cone shaped fan looking thing. It should be cleaned after every use.

Use your Rainbow separator cleaning brush, or a tooth brush, if you do not have the Rainbow one. They are just like tooth brushes.

Never store your Rainbow canister on your water basin, with or without water in it. It can and will ruin your vacuum in dew time.

You can get manuals either here,
http://www.rainbowsystem.com/ or here,

If you have any more questions let me know. I am a Rainbow seller, and a Rainbow expert also.

Thank you,
Ralph

The rainbow sat for too long on the water now wont run

So depending on how long, you may have rusted out the bearings in your motor, especially if it sat so long as to eat the glue off of your gasket.
Sounds like you may need a new motor, gasket, baffle plate and separator.

Burning smell

The response by Lynnette is in reference to the power nozzle....if you are having this issue with the main unit, then it could be the armature is starting to go bad. Have your Rainbow in front of you and give us a call. We can walk you through some steps to narrow it down.

My vacumn has a aweful smell coming from it when in use. Not motor smell.

smells are usually from bacteria. I have seen this before and you can get O.K results by rinsing the machine with cleaning soloution. I like ****-n-span. try to use a cleaner that you like the smell of as it will leave a little of that smell behind. use the vacum in the wet type aplication and use it to **** up the cleaning solution mixed with warm water with about the same mix as you would use to clean a floor. then after the machine fills up let the cleaning solution set in there for 5 to 15 minutes. dump out the cleaning soloution and repeat the process with clean warm water. If it has gotten really bad then you made need to repeat the entire process one or two more times. I also take the pick up hose and clean it with some cleaning solution then rinse outside with a water hose.

I want to take apart and clean my D4C Rainbow and my E series 1 speed, I bought both of them on Ebay, and both have odors,( They are suppose to be the vacuum that cleans and purifies the air) that leaves...

Sorry, but a Rainbow D4 has no filtration at all. The E series has a HEPA filter that needs replacing. You can put liquid Lysol in the water on the D4 and that will help

Rainbow Vacuum smells like something is burning.

Your belt is worn and that is why there is a burnt rubber smell. You need to change your belt. You can find a replacement belt and instructions here:

Vacuum clogged

If you are talking about the electric hose, try using your none electric hose with the crevice tool attachment to extract the particles from the other one. When using any of the hose please leave it running a few minutes to make sure everything in the hose moves through and does not stop midway through.

Burning Smell

Check the carbon motor brushes, there might be arcing on the armature. New brushes may help if the armature is ok.

Problem with E series rainbow, motor starts then slows down to a halt and smells.

From what you describe, you will probably have to replace the motor. But you could take it apart and see if it just needs carbon brushes.
