I have inserted the card and picked my item and press the foot control and I get an error that says Bring pressor foot to embroidery/darning position. I have tried it in the up and down position and say ok and the same error comes up again.
Slowly move the presser foot lever down while putting light pressure towards the rear of the machine. Just before the foot is fully down it will click into a position toward the back of the machine. This is the embroidery position.

Perhaps you accidently moved the switch that enables free hand embroidery? It's up and under next to the pressor foot lever. Slides forward and backward. Forward the pressor foot will go all the way down to the feed dogs. Slid back and it keeps the foot up off the feed dogs but allows the thread tension to work properly. It would be easy to accidently move it when operating the pressor foot raise/lower lever.
Loosen needle screw & insert needle with shank's flat side facing front of machine. Push needle in all the way, then tighten screw to hold needle in place.
Install a fully wound bobbin by loosening bobbin nut & placing bobbin on top. Re-attach bobbin nut & tighten. If standard thread spool will be used, then attach spool pin to bobbin shaft & place thread spool onto shaft. Attach white spool cap on end of thread spool, then tighten. Bobbin/spool should unwind facing forward toward needle.
Bring end of thread through thread guides & over tension control. Pass end of thread through needle eye, from back to front, & pull it out about two inches.
A spring pushes pressor foot onto fabric that is being sewn, so lift pressor foot & place fabric underneath.
Turn large handwheel on side of machine (handwheel can be turned in either direction) to raise needle arm to its highest position.
Holding the Handy Stitch in place with your right hand, press on power switch & begin sewing. Guide fabric (being sewn) with your left hand.
To end this sewing session, turn off power. Turn handwheel to raise needle to its highest position. Carefully pull out about three inches of thread through needle & snip, then lift pressor foot to remove fabric. Turn fabric over & loop needle threader through last stitch. Place end of thread from underside through eye of needle threader, & pull to loop through. Pull to tighten and snip end of thread.
Try using the Start/Stop button instead. It works just like the food pedal. You might like to bring the speed down first or else it will take off like a rocket when you press the button! You hit the button again when you want to stop. Sounds like you might need to replace the food pedal - unfortunately an expensive item. Try taking it out of the machine, coiling up the cord, uncoil it and re-insert being sure to push the plug in firmly. Check along the length of the foot pedal cord to see if there are any cuts in the cord. If there are, it will definitely need replacing.
embroider on #1+:
If it's a #1+ I recommend the Q (the spring works better) it's hard to put on, but worth it.
Here we go:
1>Turn off machine (always when installing or removing embroidery unit)
2>Install Q Foot. Always leave presser foot pressure (on left end of machine) at 6 for presser foot Q
3>Insert Embroidery Card
4>Insert Embroidery cassette (matching #’s with card)
5>turn on machine
6>Turn on embroidery unit (on cassette)
7>Thread for color 1
8>press reverse to start the machine embroidering....weeeeeeeee!
