When I boot up my laptop, the screen is blank, but I can hear Windows loading. I can even tell when it's at the login screen, so I scan my finger & Windows boots up but still a blank screen. I held the FN key down & hit the up arrow, but still a blank screen. Could there be a loose connection or did my video card go up?

The laptop is only 1-1.5 years old so it's just out out warranty. Once in a while I'll see a quick flash of light, but other than that, I don't see anything, no post screen, no windows, etc. I do hear the regular audio that indicates windows is loading properly but sometimes it doesn't load and just shuts itself off even if I have the AC plug in. I tried safe mode and still a blank screen. It doesn't sound like it's doing anything when I try safe mode.

Do you see anything during the startup process? For instance, the POST screen, Windows loading screen, etc...? Also, have you attempted to boot into safe mode (continually press F8 during startup, select Safe Mode, press Enter)?

Either the inverter board and/or the main LCD screen is inoperative and must be replaced. If laptop is greater than 2.5-4 years old, does not pay to replace. Replace entire laptop.

Best of luck,

I HAVE FORGOT MY PASSWORD SO I CANT USE MY LAPTOP

If you can tell me what the Os do you use, it could be must better.
On XP you can try this:
Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

On Win 7 or Vista:
Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't work, you have to use some windows password reset tool. I recommend Windows Password Reset.

Laptop problem

hey

Pranay first of all you should avoid using software which are pirated and opt for original windows.

as you said your screen goes blank for that you need to scan your system with a free software which is Hijackthis which is available on google.com scan and send paste the log file in this window and I will tell you what has to be done. Moreover you need to scan your system with sav32cli antivirus which will scan your system at the command prompt.

Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

Hoping you are using some version of windows OS. Go to safe mode... press the power button to boot and while booting keep pressing F8 which will allow you to go to safe mode and reboot the machine if you are able to sucessfully able to go to safe mode. Now boot to normal mode as usual boot. If you still notice BSOD(blue screen of death) then once more go to safe mode and uninstall the new softwares if you have installed any on your laptop recently like graphics device driver or audio driver so on.... if you are not sure of new softwares installed.. use system restore method in safe mode to restore the system to older date it should resolve your problem. system restore tool of windows will be in start-> program -> accesories-> system tools-> system restore.
