I have the exact same problem. My setting was at 55%. I noticed the fan stopped working so i replaced that. When i turned the unit back on i saw it was not at 55% so i tried to push the up button nothing happened. I then pushed the down button and it did choose the humidity levels untill it got to ON.
Now i get no response at all from the up button and the down just beeps when pressed

The control board is a very simple design and it is to signal and switch options like fan speed, power on/off, humidity up/down and sets the on/off run time. Like above the board does collect dust, but the true problem runs deeper.

My unit was stuck in run mode with the fan speed, humidity and run timmer non functioning. the unit worked and the power switch turned it on and off. The display said ON

I removed the front cover (two screws) and slight pressure on the side of the cover to remove it. This exposes the control board. The control board can be removed by removing the 6 screws on the board. the cable can then be removed by pulling out the multi-pin ribbon cable.

I diagnosed that only two of the 5 push button switched were functioning. There was also dust and mold on the board. This board is poorly protected from the moist air entering the unit and the constand moisture causes corrosion on the board, the switched seem to be the weak link.

By using a multi meter I noted that only the power switch and the humidity down button were making contact when pressed. Now it all came together. I could turn it on and off. and if you press the humidity down button to the lowers setting (ON) means run all the time.

I used a elecronic contact cleaner and sprayed it into each of the switches. I wiggled it around and blew it out with canned air. It took a few wiggles and blasts but all switched then made contact. I the board back on and tested all functions and it was like new. The contact cleaner should keep it protected for a while. The non functioning of the switches works both ways. They can stick on also. This would explain most of the other control problems. These switched are common and can be picked up at Radio Shack. On a do-it-yourself bananna scale it was a 2 for me, but I had the tools and the spray. I am not sure what sears gets for the PC control board, but this is the issue and if they were to address this the unit complaints would drop greatly.

Fixed the problem. Removed front panel ( 2 screws), unscrewed and removed circut board, 5 little screws. Removed all dust from inside panel conatcts and board. Reassembled , also cleaned filter to improve air flow. working fine - power comtrols and humidity controls work. easy to do.

My Frigidaire dehumidifier compressor runs constantly and will not turn off with the switch. Have to unplug the unit.. Everything seems to be working to dehumidify. Is this a bad motherboard?

Does it run after you get to the optimal humidity level?

If so, it's a bad humidity sensor switch A cheap fix is to put it on a timer. Otherwise replace the switch.

Fan always runs, speed doesnt change (low/high), setting humidity level doesnt impact...is this a control board or circuit board issue?

Verify the humidity reading with another device. Perhaps the humidity sensor is dirty or bad.

Another possibility is the switching device that runs the compressor and fan is shorted. If it's a mechanical relay, the contacts may have welded together, or if it's a solid-state relay, it's got a punch-through or meltdown in a device junction. My guess is it's a mechanical relay since you mention it used to click on and off and now you don't hear that. The relay may be on the control board, or it may be mounted separately - I don't have a photo or diagram of the inside of your model available.

We don't have a manual, it's a new unit but never been used. We can't figure out what all the control panel buttons mean. Help please.

if its a newly mfg unit then yes the fans gonna run all the time , that's done to increase efficiency , if you hold down on arrows then you should be able to adjust the rooms humidity level, the default screen is the actual rooms humidity level , if you hold down mode button , this will cycle thru some timer modes that ind on the display

it should turn itself off when bucket is full , this even stops that fan from running most times

What do the control knob numbers mean. Does the lower the number mean less humidity?

If you have an analog unit the humidity extraction knob should be turned to Maximum.

If you have an LED screen, the arrow down button is what determines the amount of humidity to be removed and maintained. In this case, the lower the number does mean less humidity.

On an analog unit, it's the higher numbers that determine the lower humidity levels.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I cannot change the set point on my humidity control. It is at 70%. If I press the up arrow i get 2 beeps and no change. When I press the down arrow there is no response at all. Is there some sort of...

The problem is, your trying to raise the humidity level, not lowering. These work in reverse of what you may think. Lower the level (Arrow Down) to 32% and it will continue to run, but will draw more humidity out of the air and will not stop until the water collection bucket is full or the humidity level reaches 32% or you turn it OFF.

When you pushed the Arrow Up Button, it was already on 70%, that's as high as it will go. But that means, you're trying to maintain a 70% humidity level. If it's Summer where you are, I don't think that's what you want.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

DDR2504 dehumidifier has always worked well. Now the fan runs and all seems normal, but the humidity is not dropping and you can tell that the dehumidifier is not cutting in and out. I do not have it on...

derkfarm - It may simply be a case of the humidity extraction level being set to high and/or the air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned.

Solution: Lower the humidity extraction level to 32 - 35% and clean the air filter.

If the unit is in a basement, the ambient air temperature at floor level is colder than at chest level. Dehumidifiers don't work well at temperatures between 40 - 60 degrees F.

Solution: Set the unit up off the floor on a sturdy table, cabinet, counter top, etc. It must be sturdy enough to handle the weight of the unit, plus a full tank of water and the vibration, while in operation.

Any or all the simple solutions above may solve the problem. But, we won't know, until you try them.

Please let me know if it helped or didn't solve the problem. Thanks.

Have classic dehumidifier model#CDR4500E. Can't adjust it automaticaly to come on or shut off. Don't understand the keypad fuctions, booklet to confusing.

Your dehumidifier preset default humidity level of 70%. Which is rather high, if you're using the unit in the hot Summer months. You can override this setting and lower the humidity level in increments to as low as 35%. Which is ideal during hot, humid weather. The Air Down button lowers the humidity level.Once the level is set, the unit will cycle ON and OFF as necessary, to maintain the level of humidity.

I have looked at the Owners Manual for you unit, and it's very thorough. But, I can understand, if you're not familiar with how the units work, it could be confusing. Page 5, is very informative on how to operate the unit, as far as setting humidity levels, which is what's important. If the operation of the unit continues to be a problem for you, contact Danby Customer Support 1-800-263-2629 and they can walk you through the procedures, while on the phone with them.

Hop this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

My Comfort-Aire BHD-501-B is running. However, none of the control panel buttons work. I cannot turn it off with the on/off button. I cannot change the humidity set point using the up or down arrows. I...

I don't think it's a thermistor problem, as previous respondents have suggested. I have one of these units. The control panel has been nothing but trouble. The Power button works, but the Fan Speed button is stuck on High. The Humidity Up/Down buttons only work sporadically. Sometimes they work if I keep punching them. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they work and when they don't. I think they're just cheap parts that have failed prematurely.
