IF the TV is still playing, you have a vibrating part on the main circuit board close to the or in the horzontal/high voltage section. Like a loose
coil in its housing. If the TV won't come on, then you have something shorted causing the power supply to go into a reduced output mode.
The power supply is overloaded due to a short which is probably in the horizontal circuit. Power supplies oscillate at a high frequency which you normally can't hear. Like 40khz.

I keep getting a very high pitched noise / buzzing from my TV even when volume is muted! its spoiling the viewing. its not always there but its all to frequent now. TVis 3 years old

The power supply is a switching mode power supply. They work at high frequencies. Sometimes they produce harmonics that can be heard by people. The power supply may need to be replaced if it get really bad.

Constant high pitched noise emitting from furnace

Hi,
This is probably a dry bearing in the vent motor. Those motors run at high RPM's and can make a deafening high pitched squeal if they become dry and need oiling.
Some of the motors have oil cups on them for dripping oil into and others;s are much more difficult as you need to guess where the bearing is and try to drip oil down into them or run the oil to them.
Any light weight small motor oil ike a sewr machine oil will work.
Many hardwares have small oil bottles with extending spouts made just for oiling motors for just a couple of bucks...

The other thing that can cause this is if the blower wheel is coming loose and has moved to the side and is hitting the side of the blower housing. Take the bottom cover off and check for play or movement side to side in the blower wheel. Spinning it with the power off by hand may give you a clue as you will hear it scraping the side of the housing.

High pitched squeal from TV

Get a small wood/plastic stick and touch the different coils/transformers to see which one is the cause. Replace part or if the part doesn't run hot, use a small amount of hot melt to quiet. Don't completely encapsulate in glue, don't want to create any hazards.

High pitch sound for Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-27HS420 27" TV

The high pitch squeal you hear is usually caused by a coil vibrating, normally in the horizontal circuit. I've also seen the ferrite bead on the horizontal output transistor do this, but, it is rare. I normally will repair this by finding the coil and "tightening" it. To tighten a coil, technicians use different chemicals, such as, a hot glue gun, rubber silicone or even finger nail polish. I will find the coil that screams by starting with the usual suspects and using a wooden dowel, barely touch the coil and if the pitch of the noise changes, then, thats the coil that needs repaired. If you do not know your way around the inside of a television, I never recommend you do so, since, this procedure must be done with the set turned on and you poke your hands around the inside of the set by the high voltage circuit. Hope this helps your decision.
