Use the system restore utility to an earler time when it was installed hopefully you can recover it using it.
Your Sony Vaio laptop comes with a restore section pre-installed that allows you to revert the operating system's settings to an earlier date.

The restore feature is useful if your Sony Vaio has been infected with a virus or some of your hardware is no longer working properly.

If you don't want to search through all of your various settings and registry values to locate the source of the problem, an easier solution is to simply load a restore point.

Close any programs that are currently running.
Open the "Start" menu and click "All Programs."

Select "VAIO Recovery Wizard." Click "Next."
Navigate to "Media and Recovery Options" and click "Proceed with System Recovery."

Select "Next."
Click "Recovery Options," and then choose "Custom Recovery."

Click "Next," and then select "Windows System Restore."
Click "Next" and then "OK."

Click the left and right arrow buttons above the calendar to navigate to a restore point you want to load.
Click the specific restore date you want to use for your Sony Vaio laptop.

Click "Next," and then click "Confirm Restore Point Selection."

Locked up on restart... How do I solve this mess????

Sony's Vaio line of laptop and desktop computers ship with the latest version of Windows installed. Hold down the F8 key on your Sony Vaio's keyboard as soon as your computer's screen goes dark. A new window, labeled "Windows Advanced Options," will appear. Choose one of the Safe Mode options listed. "Safe Mode" loads the minimal amount of drivers, while "Safe Mode with Networking" also loads your networking preferences. Press "OK." b> Windows 7 Press the Sony Vaio computer's power button if it's off, or restart the computer. Click "Start" in the lower left corner of Windows 7 and choose "Shut Down." Vaio stuck on vaio screen

Try booting to safe mode. Restart your computer or turn it off and turn it back on. While it's starting, tap F8 until you see the options to boot to safe mode. If you see that screen, then use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode and press enter. If it goes in, then do a system restore by going to START > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Restore it to a known good date (the date when the issue was still not there).

If you cannot access safe mode, then you have a more serious problem. There are two possible reasons of that certain issue> 1. Operating System Failure which is easy to fix. 2. Hardware issue which needs the expertise of a technician. If you can't get into safe mode, then I suggest that you get the services of a technician.

I hope this helps!

My laptop which is a sony vaio vgn-fw140E will only work in safe mode. If i try and start windows normally everything stops working after the desktop comes up.

This might have occured due to corrupted registry, system files or Operating System files in the Computer.

The best option at this place is to restart the Computer in the Safe Mode and restore it to an older date when the Computer was working perfectly.

Here are the instructions to do the System Restore process.
  1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  2. In the Choose a restore point window, click to select the desired restore point.
  3. Then, click the Next button.
  4. In the Confirm your restore point window, click the Finish button.
The operating system will be restored to the date and time selected and the computer will restart.

Best of luck... :)

Touchpad and buttons won't click on Sony Vaio

Hi,
it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost

to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,

If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me
