Black horizontal lines/scratches: Our TV is about 18months old and it has 3 large horizontal scratches on the screen. We thought is was damage caused by our toddlers but the lines are growing, one nearly spanning the entire screen. Any suggestions ?
It sounds as if it has a video processing problem or the LCD panel is going bad. Can you feel the scratches? If not it is in the panel. Also it could also be the set top box or cable box if you are using one. Also try another source like a DVD player. If it is still there, then it sounds like what i stated above. Good luck and keep me posted. Guru Jay

This is a fault i have seen with phillips lcd tv's and i suspect it could be the lcd screen itself, the ribbon cables from the screen are heat contacted on to a circuit board and there could be anything from 10 to 15 of these ribon cables and over a period of time the heat generated from the internal panels will deteriorate the plastic ribbon cables.
Try twisting the screen gently by placing your left hand on the top left hand corner and your right hand on the top right hand corner and gently twisting,if the lines go and then come back after you let go then a new screen will be required but it may be cheaper to buy a new one, could be worth buying the extended warrenty.
