Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

1 Answer

Vista Cannot Locate Scanner Driver

I have a Visioneer 9520 Scanner and I had no problem installing the software, but when I hook up the scanner to the PC, Vista recognizes new hardware, but says it cannot locate the scanner driver file. Even I point it to the folder it is located in, it says it cannot locate the file. Visioneer has walked me through all different kinds of scenarios, like making sure I have my antivirus software disabled, Internet Explorer disabled, etc. and Vista just cannot locate the driver. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

I went to the Visioneer website to download the Vista driver right after I received the scanner, as I knew the driver was not Vista compatible. The driver installed properly; however, when Vista finds the new Hardware, I get the error message saying Vista found the scanner software, but could not locate the information file. I went into Device Manager and under Other Devices it shows USB Scanner and when I click on reinstall driver, my scanner model comes up, but when I click on it and try to install the driver, I still get the error that Vista cannot locate the needed file, and I'm pointing right to the driver file. I just don't understand it. It's like the driver is invisible to Vista.

The problem is not Vista. The problem is the hardware manufactures! The problem with this scanner and I have one is the driver! even if you get it installed it does not work right. The twain driver works ok but if you want custom configurations or resolutions beyond 600 DPI forget it! If you poke around enough you'll find all kinds of utilities on Visioneers site to troubleshoot this monstrousity of a driver. Why dont they just put out a decent driver?

Do not know how to hook up

I recommend using the USB cable. (Just like hooking up your printer)

Make sure that you download and install the software listed below
USB click here for the software
Visioneer doesn't allow you to download the software to utilize the scanner on their site. So hopefully you still have what came with the scanner. If not windows 7/vista should allow for very low level functionality.

Can I use my Visioneer 8920 with my new computer that has windows vista?

Yes you can use the Scanner with Vista O/, However you will not be able to use the same software or Icon like you did before in XP

Once you connect the Scanner to Vista O/S, it will install the pre-installed Drivers for this Scanner.

You will have to use Application programs to SCan like MS Paintbrush, or Windows Gallery or Microsoft Image Edition or PICASA etc.

Or you can also open Control panel and click on SCanners and Camera and double click on the Visioneer Scanner to use it.

Visioneer Scanner Drivers/Software for Vista are not yet available from the manufacturers so this is workaroud for you to use your scanner

How to scan slides with Visioneer 9520 USB Scanner - it scans who

I have successfully used my Visioneer 9520 to scan 35mm slides, and they came out perfect. To do this, in my image editing software, I select File/Import/Acquire/Visioneer ScanManger Pro. This opens the VIsioneer scan manager window, where I select "Scan 35mm using:" and then I choose the desired scanning configuration, e.g., "35mm Better, 35mm Best, Custom" etc. See image below.
BTW: After several moves, I have lost my 35mm scanning template. Do you know where I can get another one, or do you know someone who could actually scan theirs and email the image to me? I could then create a duplicate from heavy black construction paper or card stock.

"download"?? You don't download, you install. Have you considered that the scanner might not be compatible with Vista? Here's the Visioneer site:
