Computer Switching off can be many problem.

Method 1 : Overheating of the system

System automatically shutdown or restart by itself when it's overheated due to Dust or dirt contamination in order to prevent hardware burn out.

Open your Notebook which is little tough to explain as it is different for all models.
and get it clean with an Air Blower mainly near the Processor area, check the CPU cooling fan is working or not.Get it clean too.

Check now if the system is working fine.

Method 2 : Malware, Trojan, Virus infection
Malware, Trojan, Virus infection can caused a system to repeatedly restart or shutdown as they infect svchost.exe or explorer.exe.

Scanning the system with a good antivirus like Norton,Kaspersky internet security 2010 or A-squared Anti-Malware or Avast Antivirus with their lastest updates install can solve the problem.

I perfer you check out the method 1 first.

When I am downloading a film...I leave my PC on but when I go back to it after about half an hour it has switched itself off stoopping my download can you help please ty mike

There is little info on your problem but I think you mean the screen went black while downloading a film. Normally computer monitors turn themselves off (dormant) to save energy and the life of the monitor's screen if not used for 10 or 30 minutes, depending on the settings, but the download just keeps going. Mine is set to 10 minutes. All you have to do is disturb the Mouse and see if the monitor screen switches itself on. There is another power saving option, and that is the Computer itself. If the computer is not used for one hour, it too goes dormant, but can also be set to switch itself completely off after the download is completed. However, if a computer is left on for over an hour, it can switch itself off to save energy and the computer's own wear and tear. It all depends on the computer hardware and the settings. If it is hardware controlled, then it may or may not switch itself off but it still goes dormant. Or it can be set to whatever you wish it to do, stay on all the time, go dormant after a set time or switch off if there is no prolonged activity.

I just bought an HP mini 210 - 2080 and its keeps on turning off by itself.Sometimes it goes on but then it switches off again and again!

Try logging in safe-mode and see if it switches its self off.
To log on in safe mode, power the laptop on and keep pressing F8, choose safe mode using the arrow buttons, continue to log on. when you successfully log on, leave the laptop for some time to see if it will switch itself off, if it does switch itself off, then definitely, that will be a hardware related problem.
if it does not, then that's a virus causing it, email on [email protected] to solve the software related problem.

Nokia 6630 keeps switching itself off and on all the time

Are you using 3G SIM card? It looks like your phone need firmware is outdated. Try reinstall or update your firmware through Nokia PC Suite. DON'T FORGET BACK UP YOUR DATA. If this doesn't help then is a hardware problem and that mean you have to pay a visit to nearest Nokia Centrum.

Computer turns itself on

if you can get into bios check and see if there is any type of alarm or auto on set up. If not or if its not that big of a deal just use the switch on the back of the power supply at night. Make sure you shut down your computer before switching this. It will definately keep the computer from turning on by itself.
