1st, try opening "Control Panel", then go to the "System" link and open it, then open "Device Manager" and go down to "Sound, Video & Codecs, Game Controllers" and open it up, double click on Realtek AC '97 Audio and look down at the box showing "Device Status" and make sure it states "This device is working properly" inside. If Yes, then go up to Driver, click that tab, make sure that the latest driver date is somewhere close to 2008 or 2009, even so, click the "Update Driver" tab halfway down the window, it will ask you to search 2 ways, but choose "Automatically Search". If it comes back with "Your system has the letest updates available", then you need to go back to the control panel, click on the Speaker icon which is your Sound Control application and speaker system se3tup. Go through it and make sure no "Output Audio" links have been mutted or have a red circle with a line through the middle. Check every link in this icon, from Properties to Speakers- click on Speakers and run the TEST for sound output. If you still have issues when completed here, then "Uninstall" the Audio Drivers in "Device manager" and insert your original motherboard CD and re-install your Audio drivers, then go to the motherboard website and download the updated Audio & Codec drivers from there. Do not try and do any extra modifications to a proprietary machine when it comes to specialty drivers, unless you want to install a 24 bit Sound card from Audigy, Turtle Beach or SIIG. Then you can start modifying for specialty sound for gaming, Jamming, audio adjusting, song extension types, mp3 Players and CD Burning. Good luck...

Ah got to love realtek!!!!!! ok 1st thing you need to do is uninstall the drivers, then go to their site or go onto intel's site and get an up to date version of the driver and install it. Once you do that, make sure its not muted in both realtek's sound manager and in windows sound properties.

Check out your volume control panel, and make sure you can see ALL of the sliders. There could be a hidden input that is muted.

How do I fix my realtek speakers? They play sounds and music but while doing so the sound icon in the taskbar is showing movement from bottom to top with sound increasing as it goes upwards?

Open Device manager and right click on "Realtek HD Audio"
Select 'enable'
Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select 'Playback devices' ensure that Realtek is checked as the default speaker device
Right click alongside the speaker icon and make sure they are not disabled
Use the 'Test' facility to check the audio
You may have to update the driver as well

Some settings wrongly done in my laptop hence sound is not working properly. plz advice

If you can hear sound when you test it via the control panel, then the sound hardware and drivers are good. Whatever software or application you are using that is ailing to provide sound is probably the culprit.

Microphone des not work

There are two items you'll need to check. First, when you boot your system press the Delete key to enter the bios. Open the Advanced tab.
Make sue your Audio is set to [Enabled].
For windows XP operating systems check within windows Device manager. Click the start button, open control panel. Double left click on the "System" icon to open. System properties window will open. Click on the Hardware tab than click on the "Device Manager" button. Scroll down through the icons until you come to: Sound, video and game controllers. If there is a problem with the driver you will see something like. Unknown pci controller or simple pci controller. If you do not see something either of these than there is nothing wrong with your driver software. Make sure you setup your microphone. Open the windows "Control panel". Than open, "Sound and Audio Device". Click on the Audio Tab. Under, "Sound playback" the Default device should read as; Realtek AC97 Audio. Now click on the Voice Tab. Under "Voice playback" the Default device should read as; Realtek AC97 Audio. Lastly, you need to click the "Test hardware" button. Follow the instruction from windows. It wouldn't hurt to check windows for updates. If you still do not have use of the microphone than the intergraded sound controller is defective. This can’t be repaired. You can disable the intergraded sound controller in the bios. Than buy a PCI sound card and add it into an opened PCI port.

Hope you find this helpful.
