Printer problem I have a Canon Pixma iP4000. Although I have full ink cartridges my printer is only printing in black and yellow. I have done all the cleaning, deep cleaning, etc. to no avail. Now what?

  • Anonymous Mar 01, 2008

In December I used my Canon PIXMA iP4000 printer heavily. Warnings of low ink levels have since appeared, but until today I'd not replaced cartridges because my printing has been limited to only an occasional text copy. Now I can only get black, yellow, and blue to print faintly, even after replacing all low cartridges and doing several deep cleanings. I have reseated the cartridges, and the openings appear moist with ink. How may I correct this problem? I am a photographer and have recently received an order which I need to fill soon. Many thanks.

Pixma ip4000 prints blue instead of green

The fault could be -
The yellow cartridge is empty
or
The yellow ink nozzles are blocked
Because green is made up with blue and yellow colors.

IP4000 - How can I force the printer to use the large black (6) ink cartridge?

Do you mean the large black ink as in the 3e vs. the 6? If so, the large black, 3e, is a pigment based ink and the printer should only use it when print text and black and white things. The 6 black is a dye based ink and the printer should only use it when printing photos.

Won't print black

If it's a Canon cartridge, make sure you remove the tape over the vent hole on top, try a couple of deep cleaning cycles, otherwise you need a new printhead, qy6-0049-000 around $40.00

Faint rainbow line of blue/orange/yellow at end of printed photo

Hello,
You might try cleaning or unclogging the print head[s] with a drop of water or two onto the outlet from the print cartridge[s] and a drop of water or two onto the inlet orifice into which the outlet of the cartridge feeds the ink.

Not understanding why there's two black ink cartridges

One tank is reserved for colour printing and the other one is for grayscale printing ( Black and white). Watch out as when you run out of ink and you keep trying to print a document with empty tank cartridge it will cause your print head to go bad. The cost of a new canon print head is the same as the cost of a new printer. Canon over priced the print head.

Printing Problem

Cleaning cycles use ink. So it's no wonder it got worse, the ink level went down. Are you 100% sure that the black cart is full? they can give a wrong reading on occasion. what makes you think its full? Could be also that you need to replace the head- the part the cart fits into. generally they don't last more than 18 months.] Another possibility is that the black is indeed full, but dry. Put a wet sponge to the nozzle, see if it soaks up a decent amount of ink. Good luck
