For the price of a new drive, I would replace it. This is assuming that it was working in this machine before. You should also try to open it with the button on the front, but use it as the system is booting. It is possible that the problem is in your PC/ operating system.
You will have to replace your drive, on a laptop it's not hard, there will either be a small screw under the laptop or a release on the side with the drive. You should not have to mess with any connections or cables. DVD/Bluray drives tend to go out more due to the heavier heads (and cheap manufacturing...)
Have a 5315 acer laptop and the power light is on the dvd rw but draw dosnt open any ideas
Cd/Drive is dead, try use a Asus CD/DVD drive has always support.Acer dont have.(thats why is cheap)
