Powers on and then right back off

the green light comes on for four or five seconds you can hear the picture try to come on and then shuts off and repeats twice more. my 52 inch rca tv was acting funny the last few days. It is only about 4 years old. Yesterday it was turning on and off by itself, and this morning it turned off and i was unable to turn it back on. I tried unpluging it from the wall and still nothing. I was wondering can you tell me the problem with my tv?

I was told that a lamp needs to be replaced when reading the and verified by a repair shop. But I can't find the lamp. And the manual is out of date. It does not reflect the correct drawing where to locate the lamp. I took off the rear panel and the front panel. No glory, and frustrated.

I have had my RCA TV for about 2 years and for the last 6 months it has sat in my living room without turning on. Hit the power button the green light comes on for 4 or 5 seconds then blinks 4 or 5 times and goes off. At first you could hear the TV trying to kick on now it doesn't do anything. I have been told by RCA that I will have to pay over $500 to replace the bulb. I am looking for other suggestion before I pay over half of the total cost of the TV to repair it! Help?
