After installing Samsung's TSST corp CDDVDW SH-S222A, the drive will RW CD's and Read DVD's but not write DVD's. Updated drivern from Samsung - no help.

a few things..have you reinstalled any updates for Windows XP? any of them might fix the problem. also...try this...go to Control Panel, then Device Manager, and find your DVD drive in the list...you might have to click on the + sign to see your drive...right click on the name, and click disable...click ok through the prompts, and restart your PC. Now, go back to Device Manager, repeat this, but click Enable, and XP should reinstall drivers for your DVD burner. Hopefully, this helps things. Best of Luck!

When a drive starts having this problem you need a new drive. Your drive is failing. They are very cheap online, only $20-$30 from NewEgg or Amazon.

1. When running your pc, open the drawer.>
2. clean the optical lance

If it does the same problemplease change the cd/dvd rw because the lance has defected. After doing all the step please install a new pata/sata cable .

Windows will install a geniric driver for your drive.
If Windows cannot find it, type "Windows Update catalogue" on google and go on the link which url is "catalogue.update.microsoft.com"
it will ask you to install a plugin for the website.
when done, search windows update for your drive.
If no driver is found, then the drive is incompatable with your version of windows.

If the drive is unable to boot from the bootable cd,try reseating the data cable , try flashing the chipset of the drive, from dell support site, if it doesnt works even after that , you have to replace the drive.

make sure that you are closing the CD and also make sure that the cat isnt licking the dogs balls while your doing it.
