My new (to me) Cricut which my daughter shipped to me is not working. When I turn it on, the roller bar spins several times, and the cutting blade assembly starts to turn and then makes loud grinding noise. It stops after about 2 seconds, but the roller bar no longer turns and will not accept the mat. Pressing Stop or Unload Paper results in the word Cancelling on the screen, which never disappears.
My wifes' cricut seems to have had the same problem. Try turning off the power, then manually slide the cutting carriage to the left look inside to the right. you should see a red button pull on it until it clicks. power up the cricut and see it it works. it solved the problem for my wife.
agrhh! it wont pull! i can harly even fit my hand in! Help! :0
Mine won't pull either, and still won't work. Any thing new on this?
It worked for me - thanks sjossara
I tried pulling out the red button till the red button clicked but it didn't resolve my problem. The screen just says Cricut and the copyright date and doesn't do anything else. HELP
thank you !! worked for me. years later <3
10-16-2018 Thank you - it worked for me although I used pliers and ended up pulling the red button right out. I put it back in, and the machine works now - so thankful for your ideas.
I can't find the red button on my cricut expolre 2.

It sounds like the stepper motor system has been knocked / shifts during its transit to you.
This may sound a bit rough and ready, but Unplug it and try to force the cutter head assembly accross the cutter to the other side. Then power it up and see what happens. With a little force it should shift. If it feels like it will break then be very careful.
This solved the same issue on my cutter.
(Think of it like your cutting head wants to be 2 inches left (or right) of where it currently is, so it thinks that’s we’re it is when it turns on. So when it try’s to set it self to default position it can’t, as it’s not actually where it thinks it is)
Kind regards and good luck!
