I am afraid I fried my Tom Tom. I plugged my car charger into the back of the Tom Tom and two wires got crossed. Smoke came from the connection so I immediately unplugged it. The Tom Tom eventually turned on, but shut off after the battery ran down. A local store (where I bought it) said I may have fried the charger or the inside of the Tom Tom. When I plug my car charger into the back it indicates it is charging, but it will not turn on. HELP!

Try a reset first, i will assume you cant do this, get a clip or pin switch off the unit and remove the sd card, then push the tool into the small reset hole underneath and hold for 15 seconds, then turn your unit back on and replace the sd card, it should then work if not it could be the battery has worn out as they are attached to the charger all the time when driving, hope this helps

Windows won't enable tomtom xxl or has it turned off

reset it, plug in charger for 2 hours then remove it.
press the power switch on the top and hold in the down position for 20 - 30 seconds. When it resets you will hear the tomtom drum roll, now is the time to let go of the power on button

My Tomtom 300 Go won't charge?

It appears that the battery will not hold a (good) charge anymore. If it is still under warranty, contact TomTom to address that problem. They may replace the unit for you.
It is not unusual for (rechargeable) batteries to loose it's capability to hold a good charge if it is plugged in (to a power source) all the time, even while it is not in use.

I recently purchased the tomtom 340S XL. Can it

Using cable data /charger port you can do charging both at system or in car under car charger option. those specifications placed in manual and normally lasts for 3 hours

Tom tom xl does not turn on. been on charge all night and using car charger still makes no difference

try the usb cable to your. this is the recommended method to charge a tomtom when it wont power on. for reasons unexplained by tomtom they do not recommend the car or house charges.

plug it in via the usb cable to your computer for a few hours(make sure the green light is on and nice and bright) then press and hold the power button(this could take up to 20 seconds)

Our tomtom one 3rd edition stopped working it will not switch on or charge up even th ough green light comes on charger when plugged into car

try resetting it, but first put it on the charger for a few hours to make sure its charged. using a paper clip or something similar, depress and hold the reset button located on the bottom of the unit for 15 seconds, then hold the power button for up to 5 seconds till the unit starts.

if that fails, hook your tomtom to your computer and run tomtom home and see if that will update or repair it.

I have a question concerning the tomtom 910. When plugged into the car, the tomtom goes off and on and the battery is constantly low. However, when I charge it at home, it stays on for about 4 hours. What...

Connect your TomTom to the car charger and turn it on. Tap the lower right hand cornor where the sat. signal graph is. On the screen that comes up check to see if it is chargeing while connected to the car charger. It should say charging in the upper right hand cornor where it shows the battery status. If it isn't charging then you have either a bad pin on your windsheild mount or your charger is not working. If the charger is not working it may be as simple as replacing the fuse in the charger.

TomTom 510 Sat Nav

Most likey its not worth fixing. Look at it like this. While it may have only been 6 volts versus 5. One volt in a 5 volt system is a 20 percent increase.
If you took something that ran on 120 volts and plugged it into a 144 volt source you can figure the damage that would do.

How do I recharge my Tom Tom One?

I talked to TomTom support about recharging. They say that the unit uses more power than it gets, but if you turn the power off while the car is running, it will recharge.

GPS Won't Turn On

Amazing what reading through the support page at TOMTOM reveals... I have the XL so no SD card to remove, but the support page explains that a hard reset by holding the power button takes 15 SECONDS. That's actually a really long time if you watch a clock. I pressed it and waited it out, and it worked. Powered right up. Not sure if I lost all my favorites and stuff but I have them backed up using TomTom Home anyway....
