Connect the Sony Receiver's HDMI output to HDMI in Philips TV.
You can connect a DVD player or STB to either HDMI In of Receiver or HDMI in of Philips TV.

DVD output (HDMI) to HDMI input on TV will transfer both audio and video from DVD to TV. Audio output on TV to unused Input on Yamaha receiver (Aux, CD, etc.). This hookup will allow DVD and TV channels audio playback through your Yamaha receiver. Remember to test any/all new hookups or connections using minimum settings (volume, etc.), and bring up levels slowly for the initial testing.

I just bought the sony blu ray and cannot hook it up correctly to the surround sound, dish network and tv. The instructions given from Sony and Philips did not work.

Looks fairly straightforward.

Depending on the output of your DirectTV receiver, you are either going to use an HDMI cable.tomcattech17_0.jpg

A component cable: (Red\Green\Blue for video... White\Red for audio)

Or a composite cable: (Yellow for video.. White\Red for audio)

Hook one side of the cables to the Direct TV receiver and the other into the correct inputs on the back of the TV.

SPDIF out is the Digital Audio output connection on the TV, take this and go into a Digital IN on your sony, select that input on the receiver and it shall pass Audio

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv
Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

Usually if you have a Cable or Satellite box, you would hook up a Fiber Optic or Digital Coax cable from the Sat/Cable box to the Sony Receiver. Then for HD, an HDMI cable or componet cables from the Sat/Cable box to the TV

Loop the ps3 through the tv and out to the receiver. You only need audio going to the receiver.

hidden menu Philips TV I leaned on my TV's remote yesterday and opened a weird text based menu with yellow text. It showed a bunch of 1's and 0's and while trying to leave the menu I noticed I could browse through it. During that 'browsing' I enabled a test screen (with colored vertical bars). I could also see the build date in one of the options. Since I couldn't leave the menu I turned of the TV,but when I turned it back on I still get the test screen, on every channel or ext, HDMI, etc. I do here the sound. It's like I changed some factory setting to always display the test screen. It's a Philips 32" LCD TV. (32pfl3403/12) It's 'not' the service menu I found discussed on the web a lot. I already had the TV out last night but this morning still no luck. I contacted Philips and they said to turn it off for 1 minute... Anyway, can someone tell me how to open that menu? Or provide some other way to fix this? TIA.
