I would get the splitter that splits the jack from one to two rca jacks, then plug into both amp inputs and then run the speakers how you want. Make sure speakers on left side of room are on left channel and rights on right side otherwise it will sound weird. You have the right idea. You can get the splitters and anything else from amazon.com
If you have a center channel use that, If not, cut the center channel plug-in off, connect negative wire to left channel negative, and take the positive wire and connect to the right channel positive. Then the center channel is running on both left and right channels.
If you don't have center channel output, then i recommend Right channel, Or even better, One wire from center channel to right speaker output, and the other on the left channel output. If it isn't possible then use left channel because it is more dominant then the right.
