Network and wireless was not detected
Penumbra is correct about his/her solution.
However, HP will no longer honor that link.
I can tell you, screen issues AND wireless issues are one of the problems that goes
with a laptop that is GOING TO FAIL.
Go to
hplies.com and you will see almost 2,000 users with the same issue. The
problem lies with the nVIDIA GFX chip on the motherboard. THE ISSUE IS
UNREPAIRABLE. Any repairs will force the laptop to fail again.
This
issue has actually landed me in small claims court where I am suing for
hte full cost of this laptop because not only is hte laptop defective,
nVIDIA admitted it, and HP covered it up.
Join us at hplies.com
and we will give you the know how to get this issue fixed/your $ back.
We even have links to all of the information!
Send me a PM if you want more assistance.
A bit lacking in information but if you have a HP/Compaq laptop with wireless problrms then you may want to look here.

Hi Sushiserv.
That's quite interesting about HP not honouring the g'tee. I don't know if here in the UK we have different terms and conditions. I have a friend with exactly the problem and found that link on the HP site. As far as I know he was persuing his claim with HP without problems but I'll get in contact with him and report back.
An additional comment: HP offer a bios upgrade to solve the problem if some of the symptoms start to appear, but as far as I can make out it may work but only by making the fan run all the time to keep the machine cool. It does not really "solve" the problem

Hi i understand the importance of your problem
there could be 2 reasons for your issue
1) Wireless Switch of the Laptop is off (Wifi is Off)
it is located somewhere on the edge of the laptops
or Fn+F2 might turn the switch ON and OFF
2) The setting required to configure wireless connection
Check the following steps
Windows XP
1. Click on the Start Menu, and click on Control Panel.
2. Find and double-click “Network Connections” to open up the list of connections that your 3. computer uses to connect to the internet.
4. Right click “Wireless Network Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Go to the “Wireless Networks” Tab
6. Check “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings”, if it isn't already.
7. Click “Add” to add a wireless profile.
* Enter in the Network name (SSID). (It was your desired SSID from Step 6 ).
* Uncheck the box “The key is provided for me automatically”.
* Put in the “Key 1” code from Step 7 into “Network key” and “Confirm network key”.
* Push “OK”
# Open Internet Explorer (with the computer connected to the Router)
# Enter 192.168.1.1 into the Address Bar, push Enter
# Leave the User Name field blank
# Under the password field enter “admin”
# Click “OK”
# Click “Wireless”
# Click “Basic Wireless Settings”
# Enter a desired name into the “Wireless Network Name (SSID)” field
# Write down your Wireless Network SSID, it will be used for later.
# Click “Save Settings”
For WEP:
* Click “Wireless”
* Click “Wireless Security”
* Select “WEP” in the “Security Mode” field
* Bubble “1” under the “Default Transmit Key” field
* Select “128 bits 26 hex digits”
* Enter a desired passphrase into the “Passphrase” field
* Click “Generate”
* Carefully write down the code generated in the “Key 1” field on paper, and store it in a safe place. THIS IS YOUR WEP KEY, it will be needed later on.
* Click “Save Settings”
Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.
If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.
Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.
Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.
Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.
Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.
Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.
Restart the computer.
The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.
hope this helps
