How do I replace a new 250gb hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 9400 PC Notebook ?

I tried to add a Fujitsu 250gb HDD to my Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook, but the HDD was not visable.

It couldn't be seen in the bios.

The bios has also been upgrade & still didn't work.

Contacted Dell 4 times before trying this & 2 technicians said these model notebooks can only support up to 100gb while the other 2 said it can be upraged to a maximum of 250gb, so I bought one & tried it.

    Any ideas ?

How do I upgrade the hard drive on my dell e1705/inspiron 9400 laptop to over 100 gigabytes?

    Thank You,

    Hi EckD50

Thanks for your reply which now confirms to me that it's possible to have more than 100gb installed.

What is the latest Bios version available that can be used on these 9400's ?

At the moment mine is A09.

All the others I've seen on the website up to A13 are pointing at other model notebooks!

On the underneath side of the notebook there should be two screws that are usually labeled with a picture of a drum. Remove tham and the drive should slide out. Remove the drive from the tray you slid out and reverse procedure to re-install.

You should be able to upgrade no problems, i have a 320gb SATA drive in my 9400, runs fine...try getting the latest bios version.

Check that the connections are the same and you have moved any of the jumpers on the hard drive, see the manual or online help for the hard drive.

Charging light is flashing

There are two possible causes for this issue:
1) Your dell 9400 charger is malfunction
2) Your laptop dc power jack is loose or dead

Possible troubleshooting step:
1) Borrow a compatible dell charger to plug in your laptop, if it works without any issue, it means your dell inspiron 9400 adapter need to be replaced.

2) If the compatible dell 9400 charger won't work normally, the problem may lie in your dc power jack.

Hope this will help.

Own a Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook in 2006. CD burner doesn't work - skips. Can I get an external CD/DVR RW?

In short, yes you can. A USB external drive will set you back about £30.00, however, if you look on ebay, you will probably get a replacement DVDRW for about half the cost

Inspiron 1721 can not find sata hard drive after post

Hi. You may need to reseat the hard drive by pulling it out and pushing it back in. If the system still won't boot to windows, and displays a " No Bootable Device Found" then you must have a busted hard drive. you may end up replacing the hard drive.

Hope it helps... ^_^

How do I replace a DVD/CD Burner for Dell 9400 laptop?

No it is quite a simple change, but like anything electronic you should work carefully.

The drive is held in the laptop with a few small screws. Once you remove the screws...the drive slides out. In the space you can then slide in the BlueRay or HDDVD or whatever you wish to replace the present drive with.

Go for it the looks like a nice machine!

Remember to rank me...please consider a anything else is actually negative...and hurts my rank..
