This could be a bad inner axle joint check to see if the axle boot on the left side is torn or missing also check the wheel bearings and tie rod ends by jacking up the front of the vehicle one corner at a time and grab the tire at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock position and wiggle it back and forth looking for excessive movement in the tie rod ends then reverse your hands to the top and bottom of the tire and try moving it from top to bottom checking for excessive wheel bearing movement it shouldn't move in or out at the top or bottom

When I accelerate forward from a comp stop my car makes a loud grinding/screeching by the front driver side. Once running the noise stops but until it catches speed it makes the sound. What is that?

It could be several things, and I'm going to assume that the vehicle is front wheel drive.

First possibility is the constant velocity joint on the driver's side is worn out.

Second possibility is the wheel bearing on the driver's side.

As to the shaking at 70+mph, you may have an alignment problem, or some issues with the suspension components on that side of the car.

Does the noise get worse when accelerating from a stop, and turning, at the same time?

Loud popping sound in front driver side while driving

Sounds like the sway bar might be broken. Turn the steering wheel so you can look into the inside of the fender behind the wheel. There is a large bar that connects both the front lower control arms together, sometimes this bar breaks and rubs the ends together causing a popping noise.

Sounds like a bad constant velocity shaft/axle. They are about $90 rebuilt, and are easy to replace, but involves removing the tire, and spindle.

Loud humming noise from front end of Durango 4 x 4

You have a hub/wheel bearing going out. You need to jack up the vehicle on each side. Grab the top and bottom of the wheel and try to move it in/out at the top and bottom. If this does not work then roll the wheel as fast as you can and see if you can hear which one it is. Good Luck.

Front End Noise, Chev Cavalier

It sounds like you have a bad c v or constant velocity joint. Look under the car next to the wheel look for a rubber accordian type unit, if the rubber is torn or lose the grease has escaped and damaged the joint. You can replace it yourself, but if your not mechanically inclined would say take it to a shop.
