1. check whether u have inserted the audio cable in the right port (Headphone Port)!

2.also check the audio settings of headphone port (volume, channels, etc.)

Testimonial: "Great! The audio cable wasn't plugged into the "head phones" jack. My bad :( Now I am trying to get more volume out of the speakers in monitor?"

You may have to install a driver for the monitor on your laptop for the sound to work.

My viewsonic monitor is displaying the movie being played off my hp laptop but the sounds coming from the laptop. How do I get the sound to come out of the Viewsonics built in speakers?

Do you sure that your monitor has inbuilt speakers? if yes means you can get the sound by connecting sound output of the Laptop to the sound input of the monitor generally you need a 3.5mm audio pin cable at both the ends i.e the cable have 3.5mm audio male pin at both the ends

I bought a HP 2311x23 monitor to run off of my Hp turion2 laptop. I cannot get audio to run on the big screen when I attempt to watch a video. No problems on the laptop screen.

Hello - From what you've written I would assume that you have connected your notebook to your new monitor with an HDMI cable. You have the right idea. The problem is, yes HDMI does carry both video and audio, but your new monitor doesn't have any way to output the sound...no speakers.

When your laptop connected to the external monitor it recognized the HDMI and assumed the device was sound capable. You need to go to Start > Control Panel > Sound and setup the sound to go through your notebooks speakers like it normally does and not try to send sound to the monitor.

After the change you'll view the video on your new monitor and the sound will be output by your laptop speakers like always.

Thanks for using Fix Ya and enjoy your new LED display.

I bought a new HP home computer, but I would like to use my previous Monitor which is bigger and is a Dell, so when I changed to my Dell monitor with my HP hard drive, there was no longer any sound coming...

new to you , its very old, and officially retired at HP.com
its 14 years old today. yah, old. last one sold at $30(fleabay)
what ever OS (windows) it runs its not safe on the internet.
windows 2000? or XP?

called legacy now. (means zero support at HP and MS)
no dell monitor stated, endless kinds over 20 years. made.
what makes you think the dell has speakers/ lacking the 3.5mm
phone jack
on it. did you forget to plug the sound cable in?

the hard drive has nothing to do with sound.
one can boot to a LINUX CD and play music all day long.
a fact. same with booting to USB thumb drive.(linux)

why not buy some external speaker, for $10 or at Goodwill(tm)
stores. dirt cheap or heck , upgrade to good sounding speaker
no monitor can ever do that. well.
good luck and next time tell the helper what DELL that is.
the model is on the sticker on the back most times.

I cannot get sound from my internal speakers on dell d600 latitude. Headphones work and sound comes out of internal speakers briefly when pulling jack plug out? So I know they work but just cannot get...

This sounds like a defective audio port. In normal operation, plugging in a headphone plug breaks the connection to the speakers. On your laptop, when you pull out the plug it makes a connection, but only briefly. Unfortunately the audio port is built into the system board. I don't think you will find a software fix for this problem. Your best bet is to get a USB sound device for external speakers.

No sound coming from new hp monitor through windows vista

Alright, I got the answer for ya, first, go into your control panel. Click on Sounds and Audio Devices. Listed in this window should be the name of your sound card. Under that, should be Device Volume, and at the bottom, should be the Speaker Settings, click into Advanced, next to speaker volume. It should show you a diagram of a monitor with the amount of speakers it has selected shown next to it. Where it says Speaker Setup, click and then scroll down until you see 3 settings labeled Monitor Stereo, Monitor Stand Stereo, and Monitor Mounted Stereo. Whatever one enables the sound will be the one you want to stick with.
