Whirlpool washing machine, top load

The tub seems to be somewhat loose, consequently it tilts forward so that half the water gets into the tub; also you hear strange sounds or noise during spinning.

I have a Whirlpool top-loader. When the spin cycles are slowing down, instead of the normal loud 'clunk' of the parts engaging, it now makes a loud, loud violent clunking - the tub is very loose, I noticed right off. My problem is I'm a non-handyman idiot who isn't even sure how to get into the washer to check the parts. I unscrewed everything in the back and the metal panel still doesn't seem to want to come off. I wasn't sure if it you go into it from the top somehow - if the top of the washer comes off. Little help?

The wash tub inside seems like its not attached any more- I pulled the top of the washer off and the outside tub looks good including the springs. How do I get in to see whats wrong? Its about 10 yrs old and a front load Frigidaire- help?

Hi without further investigation its a bit hit or miss , does the whole tub tilt or is it just the inner drum ?
if its just the inner drum then it sounds like the bearings are on there way out
if its the whole tub then it could be one of the springs that it hangs from or the shock absorber underneath that may have come adrift
hope this helps

How to drain the inner tub of washing machine

we dont have much call for top loaders in the uk, but if they are like front loaders, there should be a filter at the bottom either on the left or right. if so, pull the machine forward and then tilt it back against the wall. not too far in case it slips forward and lands on its back.
remove the filter cover and then using a bowl and plenty of towels, tilt it forward and let the water run out.

hope this helps

Our machine is leaking, spilling water, which comes out the bottom of the machine?

You likely have a drain line that has come loose between the tub and the pump, or the small hose for the level detection has come off.

Pull the washer out, remove access panel, and you should be able to see where it is leaking from, even if you have to tilt it forward.

Hello, my Kenmore 90 series washer is shaking badly on spin cycle and we discovered the tub inside seems to be rather loose, does this mean something may have come unhinged?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore2.gif / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Also see the Whirlpool2.gif / Kenmore installation and maintenance manual.$FILE/L-55.pdf

Thefirst thing that I'd do is pull the cabinet and check the levelingsprings and plate pads. These are designed to keep the tub frombouncing against the cabinet during the spin cycle.

Following is a description of how to remove the cabinet.

The Sears diagram shows where the springs and pads are located.

The top load Whirlpool / Kenmore washer has a tub that is designed to somewhat "free-float" The springs and pads keep it from getting too out of control. If one or more of the springs or pads is loose or damaged, the tub can contact the cabinet making a very loud sound.

I was washing pillows and water just overflowed - I'm not sure from where. I think the bottom of the machine. Just a little bit of water. Did I ruin the motor?

If you let the tub fill, then put the pillows in, you may have caused the water level to overflow the outer tub somewhat. If you didn't smell smoke or hear any frying sounds, the motor is probably ok. Does the washer seem to operating normally?

Whirlpool Cabrio washer will not drain

Oay, first your going to want to get most of the water out by tilting the unit forward and using a cup to get the water out. next disconnect the water, power and drain hose, if possible take it outside, if not, have a bucket read. get move the unit forward and get behind it, it is easiest if you just tilt the machine forward and lean it against something so you can get under it. when you get under it you will see the drain pump on the left side. there are 2 blue wires on the pump, pull off the connection and check to see if the wire has come loose, if so its an easy fix take apart the connection by the tab on the top and and remove the sleeve and simply use a small screw driver to push the wire back inbetween the prongs. other wise use a 5/16 bit and loosen the drain there will be 2 spring clips on the very small rubber joint, (be aware that if you are inside dont pull it off at once it will spill about 2-4 gallons of water depending on how much you got out),  pull that off and check inside the drain with your finger and inside the tub. if nothing is found, replace the pump.

Check if your belt is tight enough. There should be a "give" of half an inch, or it is too tight or too loose.
