Infitek MP4 Player

I purchased an Infitek MP4 player whilst in New York.
When I got home to England and tried to download music I got a message"Empty Disc".
I have tried everything I know ( which is actually very little !!) to get some music on it but without success.

I can`t find an address for Infitek and they do not respond to my emails.

Suggestions please.

Can you advise how to update firmware.

I have looked on Infitek site and they do not appear to have any downloadable goodies !!

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

I have tried all your suggestions with no luck.
I disconnected everything overnight but still get the "Empty Disc" message on the mp4 when I reconnected.
I have read the manual (between fits of laughter as it is obviously written by someone with a not so good knowledge of English ) and the only reference to Firmware is a request to register it.The manual does not tell you how and the website is no help.

I have investigated the CD but there is nothing on it which helps .Various files and folders but zilch relating to how to re-install .

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

    Hi Computerrep,
Sorry for delay in getting back to you.
I have itunes on my system which works fine with my Apple iPod - auto synchronisation when I connect.

As regards transfer, I have tried the suggested method of putting tracks in to a folder and dragging it to the Infitek icon on my desktop and music is transferred.I can open the mp4 and play music from it as if it was a normal usb external disc but the player itself will not play the tracks nor can I actually find where they are on the unit.

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

    Hello Teckies.

I tried the drag new folder suggestion and it did get the tracks somewhere on the mp4 but I can not see where and they still do not play on the unit itself - I can read them and play them from the unit via my laptop ie:using the unit as an external usb disc.

    I am not hi-tec with computers !!!
I have looked at the mympxplayer website and am completely baffled by all the options there.I have no idea on which to use and what to do with it when I have down loaded it.I have tried to send it direct to my mp4 but what next ??

Excuse my ignorance, but I could really use some step by step instrauctions.

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

    Hi CoolGuy008,

Have used your link to get to mympx website.
I click on any of the AMV convert tools listed and get to the page but when I click Download i get a "Page unavailable" message. ????

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

It really is not my day !!!

Tried to open the AMV file and get a message "the Zipped file is invalid or corrupt"

I think I should get my 5 pound lump hammer from the garage and see if hat works on the mp4 - unless you have further thoughts !!!

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

    Thanks Coolguy008.

If I knew where to contact Infitek I certainly would but their address is not in their manual and they do not answer my emails.

You are not resident in New York are you ?

I bought the unit from a store just opposite the Marriot Marquis Hotel on Time Square but cannot remember the name. They might know but may not be prepared to release the information on the load of c&^p goods they are selling !!!

Once again, thanks for your efforts.

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

My laptop recognizes the mp3 but there is nothing (that I can see ) which would indicate where the files or firmware or whatever it is that is not working are.

If I send my infitek to you to test out and promised to pay return posatge could you get it working.

Depends where you are I suppose.

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

My laptop recognises the mp4 and I can get to the Format window.

If i do in fact format, will I lose everything else that is on the mp4 ?

  • newyorkny Feb 03, 2008

I have sent them another email ( this makes the third ) but they just do not respond.

    Thanks anyway.

  • newyorkny Feb 05, 2008

    Hi Computerrep,

    Yes, still need help.

I usually use Itunes for my genuine Apple iPod which auto Syncs every time I connect it.

For the Infitek I have tried all the suggestions from the other Wiz`s .
Getting new firmware didn`t get me very far.
Placing tracks in to a folder and dragging to the Infitek actually puts music on the unit which I can access from my laptop as an external USB disc but the unit itself will not play the music. When I look at the music menu and all other areas of the infitek I can find no trace of where that music is.The Music section of the MP4 only shows " Empty Disc"

Can you see my responses to and from other experts?

  • newyorkny Feb 07, 2008

    Hi Computerrep,

You may now remove this query from your list.

I took the mp4 in to a small computer store here in the UK and the manager looked at it,plugged it in to his laptop, loaded the disc, clicked one or two icons and said he could find nothing wrong with the unit and asked me if I had tried synchronisation with my laptop music library..

I brought it home loaded some tracks on to Windows Media player and using their Sync option was able to load music to the unit and I can now hear it as well. This is something I had tried before. It didn`t work before but it does now !!!!

I telephoned the store manager and asked him what he had done. He said "Nothing"

It`s a mystery but my problem appears to be solved ((for the moment!! ))

Many thanks for all your suggestions and help.

Make sure there are no drivers needed or anything like that maybe on a cd supplied with it?, if not try it on a different computer preferably try it in the rear usb slots as they are powered better.

If none of that works contact the seller for return or exchange for new item.

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2008

    As i said in the previous message - try installing the driver that comes on the CD. However this is very unlikely to solve the problem. What may be required is that you{
    - unplug your player from the computer

    - turn the computer off

    - unplug the computer from the mains (that means physically puling the

plug). If you are using a laptop - take the battery block out too

    - leave it unplugged for 10-15min (may be up to 30min) - just go and have a coffee or a handle of beer.

When done - plug everything back in turn it on, plug the player in and turn it on... This usually works. Of course for the peace of mind you can still load that USB driver - but if you are really using XP - you do not need to - never worked that way...

Do you have a software for your mp4?
try to install it first in your computer.

try to reset all the settings. ( factory settings )
another option: if nothing happens.

reformat it - to remove bugs and viruses if any.

last resort if under warranty replace with a new unit.

How to upload songs to infitex mp3 player.
Not sure if this is the right way, but it works for me.
    1. plug into port. ie: "Removable Disk (F:)
    2. click on "my computer"
    3. click on "removable disk (F:). window will open
    3. I made a "new folder" on desktop.
    4. Open Itunes or what ever you use to listen to mp3's on your PC.
    5. Drag song to "new folder" and any other songs you want to have in this piece of crap player.
    6. Drag "new folder" or whatever you named that folder into "Removable Disk (F:) window.
This product is not user friendly. It is difficult to use and different
from ipods. I suggest just putting all your music in one folder and scroll thru all songs.

all of your files will be deleted if you format your mp3. be sure that you must back up your files before reformating your mp3.

Hi there

you can always try using software for downloading music.

try this..

http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/mp4-player.html

hope this helps.

fixya!

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2008

hi again... here is a simple way to do it. hope this helps

Hooking up the device to a USB connection on your computer.
Going through the settings on your device to find a "USB CONNECT" or "USB MODE" option. Some devices do that automatically when they detect power on the USB cable, others (like the Sony PSP) require you to do it manually).
Your computer should now automatically detect the device, probably showing it as a removable hard disk. Both Macs and Windows XP computers do a very good job with this, older operting systems can be more challenging.

Now you just need to rummage around a bit and figure out where music files should be stored. One way to do this is to pay for one song to be downloaded from a service, if that's an option, then see if you can find where it's stored on your MP4 device and drop other songs into the same place. If that's not an option, then just put a few songs in different directories and see if your device can find it once you disconnect and try to play a song or two.

Hope that helps you out! If anyone wants to send me a fancy MP4 player so I can test it out, I'd be happy to hear from you. :-)

        fixya!

Did the device came with a CD? If yes, install the driver from the CD to your computer, so that way the MP4 will be recognize by the PC.
Once you see the MP4 showing on your PC, right click on your mouse and go to format. On file format you should you should see FAT or FAT 32, try FAT32.
Good Luck.

Infitek mp4 player

First, check the user manual and see if proprietary video conversion software came with the installation CD. good luck if you lost the install CD, b/c Infitek's website sucks.

Either use Windows Media Player, ArcSoft Media converter, or another program to transfer video files to the player if it didn't come with proprietary software.

Manual for infitek mp3/mp4

Problem: Infitek MP4 player is recognized by Vista and Windows XP but when you try to put files on it, error pops up.
Solution: The MP4 needs to be reformatted to FAT32 file system, here is howto do it:
1) Connect USB cable to PC
2) Connect Infitek to cable.
3) An AutoPlay window will pop up on your PC. Select "Open folders to view files using Windows Explorer"
4) On the left of the explorer window the following will be seen "Removable Disk (?:)" (? can be any letter in the alphabet, most likely E-K)
5) Right click on "Removable Disk (?:)" with your mouse and select "Format"
6) "Format Removable Disk (?:)" window will appear, select FAT32 from the FIle system Combo box and select Quick Format from the Format options and click on START
You may need to format the MP4 more than once, it did not work for mr the first time.
7) After you receive a message, Format completed successfully you can drag and drop any files to the "Removable Disk (?:)" which is the MP4 player storage area.
8) Disconnect the cable, turn on the MP4, if at main menu use the >>| key to get to the Music, Click MENU key to get to the first song, click >|| to play song.

I used .WMA files (Windows Media Player) songs. They seemed to work ok

Good luck!
