I added a Belkin N150 wireless router to my home and left it unsecured and all was well until I decided to secure it. Once I did, desktop in the basement wouldn't connect but laptop would with a password. Instead of trying to solve the basement desktop problem, I tried going back to the unsecured version where everything worked. Alas, now the laptop won't connect to the unsecured wifi. It's as if it is continually looking for a password protected network that no longer exists. Anything glaringly obvious that I did wrong when I went back to unsecured network that anyone can see? Router worked perfectly like the manufacturer said right out of the box - easy to set up. I seemed to have goofed trying to be safer. Main desktop and basement desktop both work flawlessly. Laptop will only work if I wire it directly to the router. Thanks.
The wireless settings in the Belkin has been setup with encryption.
You can restore the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and press the RESET button for 7 secs.
It is not wise to leave your wireless router unsecured, anyone can access your network and Internet connection and use up your allocated download limit. Once you exceed your download limit you could be slug with addition charges - this depends upon your contract with your ISP.
