Are you certain it is not just a driver issue? If the right audio driver is not installed, the errors will also indicate that there is "no audio device installed".

More info here: http://www.pcauthorities.com/pc-errors/no-audio-device-in-windows

If you have the original CD< you can look for the audio drivers there. If not, check the IBM support website, or use a driver finder program to auto-detect and download the right driver.

I installed win xp sp2 professional and I can't efind the driver to enable the touch again. please help me. which tool should I install to get it again. thanks alot.

The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows device drivers foryour model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, theywill then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install thevarious drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

No sound in my laptop

There are 4 ways you can download and install audio drivers :

1.From Device Manager

(1).Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
(2).In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
(3). Right-click the device, and click Scan for hardware changes.
You should see a message that a hardware device is being installed. Additionally, the uninstalled audio device is now present in Device Manager.
(4).Close the Device Manager dialog box, and then determine whether you can hear sound.

2.From the motherboard or installation CD - If your computer came with a motherboard CD, the audio drivers should be on the disk.

3. From manufacturer's website - If you don’t have the CD go to your computer manufactures web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully before installing.

4. Microsoft's Windows Update feature : If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:

(1).Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
(2).Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
(3).Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
(4).Go to Microsoft's Web site and click Windows Update from the Downloads menu.

No Sound..Missing Multimedia Audio Controller

Go to the toshiba, and download the audio drivers for your laptop.
In the device manager, right click and uninstall the device.
Reboot
Reinstall the audio drivers.
Do it by the downloaded file, rather then the Windows Wizard.
If the downloaded file does not have a setup.exe or an install.exe, go to the device manager, and choose "Update drivers". Point it at the folder you downloaded the drivers to, and let it do the install.

If there is a problem after that, please post any error messages.

Erratic mouse/pointer behavior

I ended up calling IBM support (after many calls to them) and since the Tablet was still under warranty I sent it out for repair and they ended up replacing the planar card. Tablet was returned and I have had no further issues with the mouse.
