Sounds like a fault with the connection to its T'Con board to display panel. Check for any loose contact at the both ends of connection sockets to LVDS cable. (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) {that involves transferring a signal on a wire and its opposite over a second wire to allow the receiver to reconstruct the signal by difference}. It sounds that one or two of its back-light CCFL lamp/s has burned out. Check it.

I have samsung TV 40 inches flat screen comes on the picture ok but within 10 minutes the picture goes black and white

To replace the screen is going to cost about at least $500.00.
I will try to sell the tv as is for parts. You can probably get about $100.00 . Thats how much I buy them for.

its a LCD connectors. re-connect it properly. some loose connection.

Problem solved. I opened the configuration menu, went to Setup, More, Light Effect, changed setting from "Always" to "In Watching TV".

Go to the samsung website, and find out how to upgrade the firmware for your TV. You will probably need a portable usb memory stick to do so (if your TV is equipped with one). HDMI is an evolving technology, and firmware upgrades can resolve many of these quirky issues.
