It is anode arcing takes place inside the TV. Its final anod cap is arcing with neighboring surroundings. A smoke like fume along with a foulin smell will be there. It is repairable. Its Line Output Transformer [LOT] shoud be replaced with similar type and number. Before connecting the anode cap to the final anode of the picture tube, cleen the anode hole and surrounding area with some sort of cleaning solvent [we uses pure turpentine for that purpose], throughly, and wipe it out to dry out well.
Ur tv the convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead. These parts are defective still have some life left,it will causes colors lines like RED,GREEN,BLUE misaligns, colors shadows,3D picture. When the 2 STK covergence ICS are totally dead it make this cricket noises and burning smell. The shop cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
That's not a good sign. There are a number of parts in any TV that can put on quite a show when they fail. In many Zenith models, picture tube failure can cause this when high voltage gets back onto the circuit board. The glow you mentioned, if it was on the screen, is one symptom of such a failure.
Having this repaired is uneconomical. Labor alone may be $60 or more (I'm sure it will be...our shop charged that for a complex repair when I left the service business almost 10 years ago) and then you need parts. The repair bill could easily approach replacement cost, especially if it is the picture tube (and then it would cost more to repair than replace).
Use this as an excuse to treat yourself to a new TV. There's almost always a sale somewhere on small flat-screen models.
