Hey i have a thomson TG782T and i am trying to connect an xbox 360 elite to xbox live through an ethernet cable and i am having the mtu error come up. i already have an xbox 360 slim connected which works...

Maximum transmission unit is 1500, but for the Xbox 360 it "must" be set within the range 1364 - 1492
Since there's no MTU settings for the TG782T. your only choice is to replace it with routers like Linksys, Belkin, Netgear.

Cant find where to change MTU setting on the Belkin IP address website.

MTU settings can be changed only for PPPoE connections...

in router interface goto connection type > PPPoE > MTU settings....

click here to see how to open router interface connections...

How to change mtu settings to get x box live?

heres a good site that discusses adjusting the MTU(maximum transmission unit)
Usually in most cases MTU of 1500will work just fine, I suggest using DrTCP a free program available online to help you tweak your settings

Mtu settings

Two things needs to be cleared:

1) Which connection did you talking about LAN/WAN?

2) Xbox live may not be up yet, can you verify it?

Most home gateway routers can only change WAM MTU for certain connection type (PPPOE), and cannot set MTU for LAN and other WAN connection.

To change MTU for PPPOE, going to WAN connection setting, and you will see the MTU options box. But do not change it unless your ISP told you to do so.
So make sure Xbox live is online -- I am no Xbox fun so I have no idea how it works, but just guess from your message.

How do I change my MTU settings?

Today would be a bad time to test for a connection issue with XBox Live. It is down today for maintenance, if it worked before today, I would just wait until tomorrow and try again.

How do i change the mtu setting on my belkin n wireless router

You can adjust MTU from within the Belkin Router administrative console. You really should not be changing it unless your current ISP gives you a specific MTU setting, otherwise you could disrupt internet connectivity.

Default IP address: http://192.168.2.1
Default admin username: Administrator
Default admin password: <blank>
Be sure to set a password for your router!

This is the address where you change MTU

Have the n+ wireless router/modem trying to connect via a cable to xbox live but keep gettin insufficient MTU even though the actual MTU of the router is higher than required

You may have to use trial and error to find the best MTU fit:

MTU Default of 1500 to 1492
Tart the setting the MTU @ 1400

MTU setting. Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364.
The information your console sends and receives is broken up into "packets" for transmission over your network. MTU is a setting that controls the size of these packets. If it's too small, you won't be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.
Top Solutions Try these solutions in order. If you give each one a shot and you still can't connect, contact Xbox Customer Support. Note that they will ask you try the suggestions on this page first.
Solution 1: Check your router MTU settings Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Usually, you can change your MTU setting from your router configuration web page, which is supplied by your router manufacturer.
Learn how to find and use your router configuration page
Look for the MTU setting on the router configuration page. When you find it, set it to Auto or 1364 (or higher), save your settings, and then try to connect to Xbox LIVE again on your console.

Solution 2: Connect directly to the modem If your router's MTU is set correctly, try bypassing it by connecting your console directly to the modem. This will help determine whether there's a problem with your router or something else on your network.
Note
This may require you to move your console to a location close to your modem. This is a temporary arrangement, meant only to troubleshoot your connection. If your console is connected wirelessly, you'll need an Ethernet cable for this step.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wired connection):
  1. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your console and the router.
  2. Unplug the cable from the router, leaving it connected to the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between the router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wireless connection):
  1. Unplug the USB connector for your adapter from the console. The adapter can remain attached to the console.
  2. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again. If it works, there may be an issue with your router. Double-check the MTU setting in solution 1 above. Also confirm that you're using a compatible router, and make sure it has the latest updates from the manufacturer. If the problem persists, you may want to try a different router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Belkin F5D9230-4 router with xbox live

I was having troubles with a belkin router as well. i called belkin tech support and they never helped as they would not accept that the router was the problem. i found i could connect the xbox directly to a modem and it would work fine but when i connected it through the router it would always disconnect from games or not allow me to join a game, only host them, with no one else joining. no matter if i forwarded the appropriate ports, put the specific ip address into the dmz or even turn upnp on (i've tried different combos of each, all on at same time, to even setting up manually) and nothing would change. I found that the router had an option to turn off NAT which belkin told me would render the router useless.  I decided to go against them, turned it off and set the ip and dns to go with the modem. Now everything works fine as the router just acts as an expensive multi plug and wireless system. all the computers in the house can connect to the internet at the same time and access eachothers hard drives and i can access xbox live fine with no problems. there is also no lag when playing gtaIV multiplayer with 15 other players.  i hate belkin tech support and i will not pay for another expensive multi plug connector from belkin... ever.
