Palm says that it is not possible, because the software that they have does not work with Vista. However, there is a fix to this! :) For these instructions, you will need the usb cord. If you need to do it via bluetooth, or infrared (IR) or want to read further instructions, visit this link:
http://forums.palm.com/t5/Windows-HotSync/Windows-7-and-Vista-hotsync-instructions-here/td-p/251755
First, you will want to download the Palm desktop 6.2 and hotsync manager here:
http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/32859_en.html
Then, you'll need to download the Pimlico hotsync software here:
http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/palmhotsyncsetup.exe
Install them both, and you're off!

I HAVE WINDOWS VISTA

If you are using Windows Vista with Windows Media Player 11, you will need to follow these instructions.
Note: You will be able to download purchased/subscribed songs to the unit.

1. Start Windows Media Player 11 and then connect your unit to your computer. If you have not set up synchronization between your computer and this device, the Device Setup Wizard starts.
2. In Device Setup - Configure Sync, write a name for your mp3 player.
3. Click Finish. The window closes and the Sync feature in the Player is displayed.
4. From the left pane of this Sync feature, you can select from Playlists or Library and you will see the content of these folders in the center pane.
5. Select the songs or entire albums from the center pane.
6. Drag these songs or albums into the Sync List, which is the right pane of the Sync feature.
7. Click the Start Sync button on the Sync List pane.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for any other items that you want to copy to your unit.

Hot sync

Try reinstalling the Palm software from the CD into your computer. You should unistall it first and reinstall it.

Is this on a Windows Vista computer by any chance?

Sync problems with windows vista

I got a Vista computer in April and have problems also. You need a special program to install the maps. email Garmin and they will send you the link. An SD card reader/writer is MUCH faster than the sync.

I didn't have syncing problems until after I tried to install Documents to Go. I had to remove Doc to Go v6 because it was making my computer unstable. Doc to GO V10 works with Vista but requires Palm OS6. Garmin says that Palm OS6 can't be installed on the Garmin iQue because they added proprietary software to OS4. I believe my sync problems will disappear after I reload the Palm Software.

Sony Clie PEG-N760C hot sync with Windows Vista

I had the same problems. I downloaded PalmDesktop Win62.exe update from Palm.com and it recognized my USB connection, did away with the port error and hotsynced immediately. I messed with that thing for 3 weeks before I finally tried the update. It says it's not for the peg-n760c, but it works! I don't think they want you to update, but rather buy a new pda. Good luck!
