Hi if the temp are ok then you need new sensors or may be pcb .. if you have a standered stat assy change this first as less expensive :)

Freezer runs for approx. four days with operation normal. Then the temp. panel of front door displays a symbol that looks like a short L followed by a period. Then the temp. gauge and the interior light...

From what I read, the "L." that you see on the control panel indicated that the controls have been locked. According to the manual if you hold down the "alarm reset" button for 3 seconds the "L." will disappear allowing you to control the temperature again. I don't as of yet know what is causing your overall problem though...

Freezer due to brown out then power restored now low temp alarm

The light should reset itself when the freezer gets to less then 18 degrees. If it is still above 18 degrees it will stay on. Now if it is cooler then 18 degrees then unplug the unit for 1 minute and plug it back in once you are sure that it is below 18 degrees. But do not rule out the thermostat. It could have blown out when the brownout happened. To test it jump the wires together and see if the freezer comes on and goes off

No digital readout

Hello derek143

You Said,
I have a Whirlpool upright freezer AFG 371/H there is a digital display and lights and buttons, on/off temp alarm etc running across the top of the freezer. None of this works but the freezer is still freezing. i have no idea what the temp is.

I think you should try unplugging it for 5 minutes and then try restarting it and see if it reset.

Loud buzzing noise

IF YOUR FREEZER HAS A TEMP ALARM, USUALLY LOCATED IN FRONT,BOTTOM, RIGHT CORNER, THE TEMP IS PROBABLY ABOVE THE SAFE TEMP FOR FREEZERS, (10 DEGREES) AND SO THE ALARM WILL SOUND.

THERE SHOULD BE A SWITCH IN FRONT TO SHUT OFF THE ALARM UNTIL THE TEMP GETS BACK DOWN TO ZERO. THEN YOU CAN TURN THE ALARM BACK ON.

IF YOU PLUG IN THE FREEZER AND TURN IT ON, IT SHOULD BE BACK DOWN TO NORMAL TEMP (IF IT IS EMPTY) IN ABOUT 24 HOURS. IF IT ISN'T, YOU HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS. CHECK TO BE SURE THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING.
