I got the message to align after installing a new printer. It said to put in the last page printed and press ok. I did all that and nothing happens and now when I try to print a page, it comes out like I have a half empty cartridge.

I scan the alignment sheet but when it says press ok, there is no "ok" on the printers little screen. So i press "done" on the computer screen, because the scan is showing up, and the thing keeps telling me to align over and over.

Printer is the HP Photosmart C5550 , bought from Costco June of 2009. was/am getting BSOD with random error codes, usually a letter like 'B' followed by a dozen or so numbers. so far have had to pull power while still on, turn off and on at its power button many times in many combinations.

When it does come back it is locked into 'Align Cartridges' mode and won't respond to cancel, menu, back key or anyting other than OK, which leads it to draw in paper, then spit it out and request 'plain white paper', which is what's it's loaded with.

This time the only thing that broke the cycle was to remove the (fresh, new) cartridges and put them back in.

It's printing now, but my faith in it and HP consumer inkjet printers is shot.

Hope this helps someone.

Hmmmm...assuming that the cartridge is installed properly, yes? seems that your black ink cartridge may need to go through a 'clean' process, prior to alignment(sure wish that the replacement folks would insist on cleaning out the old heads, before doing an alignment. It's like changing the oil on your car, but using the old filter. Same gunk still in the system.

I finally got mine to run through the following process:
Pulled back out the black cartridge I had replaced and put it back in
Pulled out the color cartridge and put back in.
CLosed the cover and was prompted to print alignment page.
Placed alignment page on glass with 4 blocks to the left (as depicted on alignmnet sheet)
Press Okay to start alignment
Alignment was FINALLY succesful.

If I were to put anything on this troubleshooting, it was pulling BOTH cartridges back out and resetting them

How do I install ink cartridge for hp photosmart C4280

To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to
access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for
changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not
docked safely when you try to remove them.

2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.

3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.

4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print
cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from
the slot on the right.

Dell 922 printer alignment problem-

try this...

Aligning Ink Cartridges Your printer automatically aligns the ink cartridges when they are installed or replaced. To verify your ink cartridges are aligned, you can print an alignment page. After you close the printer unit, press the Menu button. The alignment page begins printing. During printing, the operator panel display reads Alignment Page Printing. When complete, the message reads Auto Alignment Complete. Your ink cartridges are now aligned for optimal print quality.
You may also need to align ink cartridges when characters are not properly formed or are not aligned at the left margin, or when vertical or straight lines appear wavy.
To align the ink cartridges:
  1. Load plain paper. For more information, see Loading Paper.

  2. Click Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo AIO Printer 922® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  3. Click the Maintenance tab

  4. Click Align to fix blurry edges.

  5. Click Print.

The ink cartridges align when the page prints.

If this helps you plz rate this fixya. Thank you kindly. If you need more help post it & I'll be glad to do what I can.
