Unfortunately, with the current software onboard the k100d isn't compatible with a sdhc card. It looks like it's max capacity is 2gig.
There's some hope that there may be a firmware upgrade for the camera later, but for now it's limited to 2g cards.

No, you cannot use SDHC cards with the 450. You can only use MMC and SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I just bought a new verbatium 8 gb SDHC memory card for my Pentax S6 camera and it does not work powers on but can not get menu funtions to work. my old card is a SD 1GB works fine are the new SDHC cards...

No. The S6 works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work with devices not designed to use them. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

What Memory Cards will work?

Hi,,

Unfortunately, the Pentax K100D is not SDHC compatible, which means that the camera can be equipped with a maximum memory capacity of 2GB.

It is also advisable to choose a fast version of the Secure Digital memory card, such as Ultra II or Extreme III by SanDisk. I would recommend using a memory card of at least 512MB, or even 1GB if you can.

Hope this info helps

Pentax Optio MX4 won't read my new SDHC 4gb

Does the camera work with any other card? Was the card formatted in the camera? Some cards from some manufacturers just don't work in some cameras.

Largest capacity SD card for Pentax Optio S5N

The maximum supported size is most likely 2GB SD Card. Cards with 4GB and more are following a new (incompatible) standard called SDHC (SD High Capacity), SDHC cards work only in devices specifically supporting SDHC. The Optio S5N uses the old SD standard where 2GB are the maximum size.
