Have you looked at the side of the cable and made sure that the switch is set correctly? you have to select either HDTV of AV I believe. If that isn't the problem, try hooking it up through a different input on your television. I don't think it's your xbox because with any hardware failure, you would get the RRoD (red ring of death). I would definitely troubleshoot the TV. Try to hook up a regular DVD player in the input that your xbox is in and see if it works.

I've had this happen to me a few times. Either cycle through your sources (until you get to the one for your xbox) or turn the TV off and turn it on again after 10-15 seconds.

it might bea problem with your actual video cord that plugs into the tv.... umm my xbox has a lot of issues too but ive never had this. id suggest you let it say off for a while and try somebody elses cords that connect the xbox to the tv to see if its an issue with your xbox or if its with your cords. ill also suggest you call microsoft and they can troubleshoot...

My xbox 360 wont show a picture but it has sound

Since your sound works, you know the xbox is booting properly.  Check two things: 1) try another television to make sure it's not the tv.  2) try another cable(from a friend?) to see if the cable is bad.
**Also, if the video settings were saved on an unsupported setting, it could cause the screen to not show video.  If you try these 2 things and you think someone might have saved bad settings, I recall a button combination you can use to reset certain things, and I try to help if it comes to that.

My xbox wont show on my tv,cant hear sound but no

It's possible that your Xbox is sending out a picture that's higher resolution than your TV can display. Try reducing the resolution of the Xbox video output.

Plays dvds on xbox 360 fine, but no picture for games/dashboard

already solved it. thanks. i couldn't see the xbox settings blade because of the blank screen so switched my component cable to the tv setting instead of the hdtv setting, then i could see the dashboard in non-hd and switched the resolution to 720p while simultaneously switching the component cable back to the hdtv setting. that worked.

Screen won't show up but this is diffrent

This happened to mine and it had to be sent back to be repaired (3rd time) as the graphics card had failed; it started with the display colours looking strange, then the picture went totally. If you can hear everything working (beeping/whooshing" as you go through the "blades", it sounds like you have the same problem. below is how to reset to the default display sttings just in case anything has gone wrong on this.

To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps: (Copy and pasted from Microsoft support pages)
  1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
  2. Turn the console off.
  3. Turn the console on.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.

Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.
  4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.

If this doesn't work then try phoning XBOX Support on 0800 587 1102.

Easy cap from xbox to computer - can hear sound but no picture

I've heard that DVD Rs don't play on Xboxs.  It used to be on the first generation Xbox would give you an error.  If you are getting sound and no pictures,  it's a good indication that the Xbox doesn't have the correct decoder to read the DVD even though playing store bought movies from it still works.
I think they did this to keep people from pirating games rendering home burned DVDs useless when played in the machine.

  1. Make sure that the AV cables are 100% secure.
  2. Try an new AV cable.
  3. Try your console on a different TV.
  4. Call xbox customer support at 18004MYXBOX
