I was sewing with my 1530 when all of a sudden the needle stopped moving. I can manually move the needle up and down with my fingers, but the motor on the machine will not. Any suggestions?

If the handwheel rotates and the bobbin winder functions OK but the needle bar is not going up and down and is just free to move, the probability is that the basting solenoid has tripped the needle bar drive and that there's some contamination build-up on the needle-bar drive hole so that it wont click back in on the upward stroke. You can try pushing the needle bar fully up into the head (dont force it), in the hope it'll click back in, but if it's in need of cleaning, it'll probably drop out again and anyway, its no solution if you are using a basting stitch. Have you been using a basting stitch - if so, this is the most likely reason. It's not too hard to remedy, but does require dismantling the machine to get at the needle bar drive in order to clean and lubricate it - not a job you can do yourself, I'm afraid, so it's probably off to the service engineer this time ... sorry !

Gummed up baste stitch finger on bernina 1130. how can I fix it?

If you can join the Yahoo group "BerninaThirtySomethings," there are a lot of conversations there and documents that explain how to fix the stuck basting stitch. It is rather difficult to explain so that would be the best source. (You will need a Yahoo email account to join the group.) A Bernina technician can release that for you.

There's nothing wrong with the Threader, it's just that the Threader doesn't reach the back of the Needle!

Usually you have to manually move the needle up and down until its height matches the threader height. Newer machines have an automatic needle stop that generally matches the threader but most older machines need to be manually manipulated.

HINT: If you do need to manually thread your needle, lick your index finger and then rub the back of the needle's eye. Your thread will literally "leap" through the eye! This works for hand-sewing needles too!

sounds like the needle is bent replace the needle

I have a Singer CG-550 and am sewing a heavyweight fabric using needle size 18. The engine whirs but the needle no longer moves up and down once it hits the fabric. It occurred suddenly, and I wonder

The motor may not have enough torque to force the needle through the fabric and back in a cycle. If you continue to force the needle into course material, it could bend the shaft, needle, or cause a misalignment of the needle pitch and direction. It sounds like the machine is a light duty appliance and you cannot force it to do commercial appliations.

The machine won't stitch anything...

check the feed dogs in the needle plate area to see if there up,
if you can see them & touch them with your finger, I'm putting in a link
for a free manual, so you can see where the lever is to the feed dogs, just
incase they are not up. if they are up then they may need to be checked
to see why they aren't moving the fabric.

I have a Finesse sewing machine and I was sewing some placemats but it suddenly stopped feeding the material although it keeps sewing (foot moves up and down). According to the book I have checked the...

Can you see the feed dogs moving?

un thread, raise the pressure foot then manually turn the flywheel towards you and watch the feed dogs (the teeth that move under the needle plate). If they are not moving around and coming up above the needle plate then one of two things:
either you've accidentially disengaged the feed dogs, check the manual for instructions to reengage, sometimes a knob, button or slide, often on the front base or around the back of the free arm.

If they are engaged but not moving up at all, then something has gone in the drive to them, usually a gear in the free arm area. In which case, take to the shop for repair.

[email protected] needle on my Bernina 1530 Inspiration just stopped going up and down whether I use the foot pedal or manually attempt to move the needle

This sounds like you have the machine in bobbin winding mode, just refer to your manual to take it out of bobbin winding mode. I'm not familier with your exact model, but the is typically a lever, or button that is used to wind bobbins, so the needle doesn't keep sewing without the bobbin thread in place.

Please rate my solution thanks

Wheel won't turn

Hello,

The same thing happend to me with an older model (Singer XL 10). I have been sewing a decorating stitch and the machine stopped suddenly. Now I am not able to turn the hand wheel anymore like I should (I can move it a little bit, but the needle does not move up and down and the wheel is getting stuck). When I try to use the pedal the motor makes a horrible noise and stops. The needle is not moving up and down.

Is there a solution for that problem? I moved from Europe to Australia and have not used my machine since. Today is the first day, I was cleaning and oiling it and it first sewed perfectly. In case that there would be thread stuck somewhere, how could I possibly clean that? I already took off the plastic from the head, but I can not see where the problem is.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelly
