Try resetting the system
put the mp3 player on hold then press and hold play&rec.
THIS FOR SURE HELP!!!!!!!Hi...I find the answer...Push and hold rec button and button for holding...And it will start..if your mp3 (a samsung yp-u3 mp3) says log val=0x10008018 or something, click and hold the record button and once it begins to record, press the back arrow/button (symbol in the top right corner). your mp3 should work (play music and such) now. to fix your mp3 and get rid of that log val message, you need to go to settings, then system, then format. format your mp3. unfortunately this will delete all your songs and files on the mp3, but the mp3 player should be fixed and the log val message wont appear anymore.

Mine didnt work eithr, all i can see was Ox00000024, So i tried what other's said "put the mp3 player on hold then press and hold play&rec" but that didnt work, the only thing showed up was "system fail, power turned off" etc.
SOLUTION:
-go to windows Media Player
- click "syn" & press the down arrow
- then click "shuffle samsung YP-U3"
- Click yes
just let it delete the files, you can always put songs back into the MP3, this was the only way i found it easy :)

Yeah, i just went through the same problem but was able to fix it by synchronizing my yp-u3 with windows media player 11.
After this i just took my mp3 player out, without safely removing it, and turned it on and it worked just fine, not showing the log val = 0x0000024. If this does not work you could try:
-formatting your u3
-downloading and installing the samsung media studio and formatting from there
-upgrading your firmware for your u3
These were some methods i used to try fixing my u3 but did not come to any prevail.

My girlfriends mp3 had the log val = 0x....... error also and i fixed by simply formatting the device using samsung media studio 5. I tried resetting (player on hold and holding both top buttons) but that didn't work.. The firmware i use is 1.13.

Hi I had the same problem and the reset procedure did not work. I discoved that the hold was on and the unit will not reset with hold on. One I removed hold the rest procedure worked.

My mp3 player is frozen and the volume is the only thing displaying on the screen. It will not shut up off. Its completly frozen. Please advise.

Mine has also completely frozen with the screen on. Not responding on USB or it wont turn off!!!
