Brother HL-5240 drum light flashing

Hi

Drum light was flashing on this printer, so I replaced the drum for another(original Brother DR-3100). Followed steps to reset the Drum counter.

However when I close the front, the drum light still flashes.

I try to print a status page , but the status light on the printer turns orange (from green) and the drum light flashes.

It appears the printer is not resetting the drum counter.

It doesn't matter how many times I tried ; even tried another new drum.

Spoke to brother support who advised an engineer needs to look at it, but its a few months out of warranty.

I have even installed latest firmware , which didn't fix problem.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.

    I have followed your steps several times. All that happens is that the leds all turn orange , so I let go of the Go button. Then close the lid. Wait a few secs and this find the drum light starts to flash orange. When I Press GO 3 times for test print, the GO light turns orange.

    well I have done it all, even pressed the button 3 times and got the test page but it wont print from my computer....any suggestions would be appreciated...BB

Normally clearing the drum count the machine has to be on open front cover as if to change the drum press and hold the button in for about 10 second then release and shut the door. This should reset the count if not please get back to me and I'll check the service manual to see if anything in that.

Yes,
Opening the front cover on my 2040, Holding the GO button in for 10~12 secs seemed to recycle everything.

The drum light is now off!

Thanks it worked, when we held in the button with the cover open, the lights quit flashing orange.

did you clear the required counters and run required procedures? If not the machine still thinks it has a old drum because counter was not cleared only way copier will know it has a new drum

We have a Brother 5240. We inserted a new drum and toner and the drum light still blinks. Can you advise what the problem is. Thank you
Before you replace the drum you have to clear the error message. To do that you have to Make sure that the printer is turned on and the Drum LED is blinking. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover. Press and hold down Go for about 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Once all four LEDs are lit, release Go.

How do you replace the drum properly on a Brother HL-5240
Out with the old and in with the new, you remove the toner and drum together, remove the toner from the old drum by pressing the blue lever on the side, install the toner in the new drum, and re install in the printer. With the front door open press the go button til all lights flash and then close the door, the new drum is reset.

I am trying to install a new drum DR-400 in my brother HL-1240. I think I followed the directions correctly, but the yellow need new drum light is still on on the printer. I turned the printer off and on...
The install is probably correct, you just need to open the door and press the go button til all lights flash to reset the drum counter.

Brother Laser HL-5240 has a status light and toner light. Fuser was replaced but no help.
that error usually indicates that the toner has reached its end of life
or the drum is not properly installed.

i had one person who put the toner in but threw the drum cartridge away.

The drum light came on (Brother HL 5240) and I replaced the drum with a new one and it still will not work... Any suggestions?
I continued looking and found where someone else had the same problem. I opened the front cover, held down the go key for 10 seconds and closed the door. This reset something because it works now.
