Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating “Disc Read Error” or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that Xbox owners are reporting is if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.
Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “the ring of death”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but professional disc repair services is normally required to restore disc laser burn damage back to "As Good As New Condition".

For further help on Xbox & Xbox 360 disc repairs, visit:

www.discREPAIR.ie

Check the “More Info” & “FAQ” Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters.

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the discs is in play, the games console itself may require repair.
You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

When I put may kinect game in the xbox it says the disc is unreadable, then it says to clean disc with a soft cloth and restart the console. I did that several times and it still wont work. What should i...

If the disc has a lot of scratches then it is the fault of the disc. The Xbox360 is known to scratch up discs so you can either buy a new copy of the game or follow the video in the link below. http://www.ehow.com/video_4774663_repair-xbox-360-game-discs.html
If the disc is fine then the laser of the Xbox360 that reads the discs may have issues. If that is the case then you will need to send it to Microsoft to repair for a fee or find someone who knows how to take apart and fix a 360.

My xbox360 will not read non scratched discs and will say " open tray"

your laser may be dirty. Your motor may have dirt/debris on it. if under warranty, send it in for repair. If you want to try and fix it go at it. Most of the 360's that i've purchased from ebay for the same issue, just needed the laser cleaned.

Xbox360 will play cds but no games, says onscreen

If your Xbox 360 will not play your games this is because of the sensors on the back of the drive overheating it is not normally the laser.

Luckily you can fix this yourself and get back to your games and to do this you need the proven Xbox 360 Repair guide.

Or you can send it in and they will fix it for you the repair will take about 4 weeks.

Sometimes like you mention it will still play CD's though.

My xbox360 won't read disc, spins for awhile and

The best bet is to try and clean the laser, if the unit is under warranty, contact microsoft and send it back, if not, dont use a laser cleaning kit, they are useless at cleaning and excellent at spreading the grime over the eye. Open the case, an online guide will help you learn the art of pulling apart the xbox, dis-assemble the dvd drive assembly and clean the laser using a cue tip or cotton bud. Good Luck.

Disc is stuck in my sons xbox360, is there anything i can do without having to send it to germany, im uk, thanks

Hi Jim,
I can see how your son might have felt missing his fav games for the day, apparently the only possible solution would be to open the XBOX and removing the disc manually. Make sure that the warranty sticker is not torn or scratched while you do this process.
And if you are not confident then I would recommend you to fedex it to Germany Hope this helps
