You only need to replace the toner, you remove the toner from the drum assembly by pushing the lever on the side and lifting it out, you install the new toner where you took out the old after removing packing material. After installing, you press the go button 3 times and the printout will tell you how much life is left in the drum.

I HAVE REPLACED TONER WITH THE CORRECT BROTHER TONER CARRTRIDGE AND THE MACHINE KEEPS TELLING ME TONER ERROR AND REINSTALL DRUM UNIT..HELP

Hi there,

Below are instructions that I have found from the internet. Hope that they will help.

  • Open the front cover of the printer.
  • Hold down the Go button for 4 seconds until all the LEDs light up. Then release the Go button
  • Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  • Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the printer.
  • Close the front cover of the printer
  • Your drum unit should now be reset
  • MFC / DCP PRINTER SERIES

1.Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge. Wait 1 or 2 minutes.
2.Replace the drum unit and toner cartridge into printer.
3.The error message "Change Drum Soon/Drum end soon" will continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replace the drum unit.
4.To clear this error message, you need to reset the drum counter as instructed below.
5.Make sure that the machine is turned on.

For MFC users: To confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1. For DCP users To confirm you are installing a new drum, press the Up Arrow key

7.When the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.
    8.Your drum is now reset.

Resetting the drum unit will not improve print quality. It only resets your drum and allows you to continue to print. You decide when to replace the drum unit not the manufacturer!

Do you get a new drum with a toner replacement cartidge or is it a separate thing you have to buy

Hello.

The drum and toner cartridge are separate items. Both are replaced by the user.

The toner cartridge holds toner/ink. The drum does the work. You will need to replace the drum for every 4-5 toner cartridges used.

I've seen toner cartridges for your printer at $36 vs $60 for a drum.

Hope this helps.

Drum maintenance

i;m not sure what your question is, but if your getting a drum error, it could be one of 2 things.

1. you need to clean the wires on the drum, there is a purple tab that slides back and forth that cleans wires.

2. you need to replace the drum. take the toner cartridge out of the unit, separate it from the drum, replace the drum, re-attach toner cartridge to the drum, and re-insert the toner back into the printer.

thanks

I changed the drum unit on my c5500 printer and didn't realize that I needed to replace the toner at the same time. I just replaced that toner about a month ago and now it's saying it's empty - which I...

Before you replace a drum unit, you should (with the top toner cartridge still in place) turn the unit upside down and gently shake the toner that is in the drum unit back into the toner cartridge. When you install toner on these printers, most of the toner falls into the drum unit. The only way you can "reset" the printer is to add more toner, because there is almost no toner in that new drum.

Brother MCF-7340 first time toner replacement

If this model comes with the drum separately of the cartridge, only replace the cartridge. There's no need to change it every time. until prints start to get lines or dots. Don't expose the drum to light too much.

I have a message that says "Change PC Drum". What is that?

This is telling you to replace the "DRUM" of the printer. This is different from the "TONER". Normally, the drum is attached to the toner cartridge. Check your printer documentation. You may be able to purchase a drum/toner kit. Drums last longer than Toner cartridges so you will replace the Toner cartridge more often than the Drum.

Printer Problems

Hi, it sounds like you need to change the drum. If you are using the High Yield TN660 toner is your printer, then the drum needs changing every 3-4 toners. If using the low yield TN6300 toner then your drum needs to be replaced every 6-7 toners. Hope this helps
