My son's psp (the older fat version) has stopped reading discs

My sons psp (the older fat version) has stopped working. When a disc is put in, I can hear it spinning but it just doesn't manage to read any disc anymore. It just eventually says that 'The disc could not be read'. We have tried lots of discs and it is just the same. It would be great if you could help. Many thanks

There is a small switch in the upper left corner when you open the UMD door if the tip is broken off it wont tell the psp that a disk is inserted or like the one I just fixed the switch went bad I replaced it and now it works let me know if you need more assistance ill be happy to help

it might also be the umd drive its self the laser eye may have gone bad or the game your trying to play might need newer firmware to play it like scouse martin said

Try updating the firmware on it. If that makes no difference, then i am afraid the laser on your UMD drive has broken

Not sure is this actual PSP or play station. If it is Play station It is very possible that there is problem with laser that reads disks. Try to by PSP cleaner and run it and this might fix the issue.

Psp original fat kind wont read disks

you can find a used fat modle on crages list for around 40 bucks, and used fat ones at a place like game stops 70-90. one option i would try is a little rubbing alcohol on one side of a Qtip, wipe the lazer eye very gently with the wet side then dry it with the other end of the Qtip, let sit for about 10 mins and giver a go. (DO THIS AT OWN RISK) =D if your very gentle you wount mess it up, the eye is glass and some times it just gets dusty. hope it helps

Won't read disc

The sensor is most likely came out of place. Try to go to a game store like game stop or game craze if there are any of those places around.

My son's psp will only read some games but not all of them Why?

Well the problem might be that your son hasn't updated the PSP to it's latest software version. That or the game disc(s) is probably just dirty. If updating doesn't work then you should rather just call SONY. They will either help you with your problem or tell you you have to ship it to there company to fix and they will charge you a fee. But shipping the PSP is free.

My nintendo wii wont load discs??

Here's a page on the official Nintendo site that might help.
----

"Unable to read the disc" / "Disc could not be read" If you are getting one of the above error messages:
  • Ensure that you are properly loading a Game Disc. insertdisccorrect.gif
    • If your console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.
    • If your console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards

  • If you know you are inserting the Game Disc correctly, but are still have the same problem with only one game (or if you only have one game), try cleaning the Game Disc by following the disc cleaning procedures (click here).
  • If after reading the above information you are still unable to play a game disc, please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options.
