If the camera is taking photos that are pitch black, and you cannot se anything, then it could be one of two things. 1) your backlight AND lcd are damaged/detached (if it was white that would mean the backlight is working) or 2) the CCD (like film for a digital camera) is damaged. If you can see an image, but it is VERY dark, then that would indicate a backlight error. There are 2 ways to test this. 1) take a picture and transfer it to your computer. If you can see the photo you took on your computer then it is a backlight/lcd problem. or 2) under the rubber where you usually plug the usb in, there may also be a plug that looks like it would fit a headphone jack. There should also be a cable with red/white/yellow on one end and a headphone looking plug on the other end, that came with the camera. You could connect this to your camera and to a tv and you should be able to then see what the camera sees. If you can then it is a backlight/lcd error. If you can't see anything, make sure the tv is on the right setting and that the yellow plug is fully inserted. If you still can't see anything then it is probably a ccd error, in which case you should contact sony.

My JVC model AV-20F476 has a black-out box that covers most of the bottom half of the screen.

Go into menu and under CLOSED CAPTIONS look to see if TEXT is engaged---if it is set to text 1 turn it off or to text 2,3,4, etc

Text was a feature never really used but it is there, some cable boxes also have this setting/feature.

Let me know if you have questions.

So i have a Sony Computer it's not a lap top, Its like a desktop. and it has a built in web-cam and microphone, The web cam did work for a while then one day it just turn black. It says its working right...

I have found that the installed web cams on most units are inferior and a external USB cam has better quality in sound and picture and are very cheap and can be pointed in any direction and even used to copy photos your screen or documents , so if you are a frequent cam user buy your self a USE cam for $50 or less

Our C613 is not reading the memory card when it is turned on. It goes straight to built in memory which only holds 12 pictures. What do we need to do??

Pls. check that the "lever" on the memory card isn't set to black the reading of the card.

Go into Menu, Cam settings and AUTO or internal: Press OK for Internal.
NOTE if the cam. cannot read the card it will automaticly go over to internal memory.

Good luck

Screen turns black after taking a picture

If the cam has never been dropped i would suspect a software issue.
Check the manual and see if there is a master reset, if so try it and see if that solves the issue. if not i would tend to think you will need service.
As i doubt there is little that can be done from the outside of the cam to
correct the problem.

Don't worry you dont have to buy a new camera :) When you press the menu button there should be an options menu. look around for the "effects" options or something along those lines. There is a black and white mode on the camera, my guess is that it turned on somehow. All you gotta do is turn it off.

I hope that this helps, feel free to ask more questions. I have a jvc video camera just like this one, so if need be i can just look at mine!

Scren split into 4 and in black and white.

I am wondering if you have accidentally puy your cam in one of those fun modes like the ones that distorts the picture or turns it into 4 color pictures etc. I don't know what it is called on your model but the menu for this is called video effects. I know where it is on Logitech quick cams but not for yours. I suggest you just try looking at these setting options and see if you can make it change to something else and if so then you are in the right place and just have to find how to turn this off. Let me know what kind of camera you have and what kind of menus you have available if this does not give you a good hint.
