    Hi Kripa,

Thanks for your help. I did change the key panel. The F3 signal has disappeared now. I get the "please press clock" message now. The keys don't work. What could be the problem now. Please let me know. Thanks,

    Hi Kripa,

I still have the same problem. I cleaned the ribbon as you suggested. It still gives me "Please press clock" signal. The keys don't work. Is this a problem with the PC board. Do you think it is better to replace the microwave (from cost point of view)?

We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:

Essentially you unplug the oven from the wall outlet, and remove the control panel assembly as per the instructions at the site linked above.

There should also be a very helpful "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel. It's very helpful when troubleshooting.

Then unplug the keypad from the circuit board, heat up the keypad from the front with a hair dryer, then peel the old keypad off. You have to make sure all the old adhesive is off.

Then peel the backing paper from the new keypad and carefully press the new keypad in place. You need to be precise - you cannot apply it, peel it off, then reapply it.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:

Assuming you received the proper replacement part, the keypad connector strip (mylar) may not be plugged into the circuit board connector correctly.

One half or all of it may not actually be between the metal conductors (pins) in the keypad connector.

Here is my standard text on keypad disconnection and connection:

    1. Be sure the oven is disconnected from the power line while you are taking it apart.

    2. The keypad connection is the green or blue translucent plastic strip that plugs into a connector near the edge of the board.

    3. There are two tiny tabs (one on each side) of the connector that you can gently pull up on to unlock the connector.

    4. Then the keypad strip will lift out. Clean both sides of the end of the strip with alcohol-based cleaner if you like, but do not use ammonia-based cleaner. Dry the end of the strip.

    5. Put the keypad strip back in, making sure both sides are down fully.

    6. While holding the strip down, push the connector back down to lock it.

    7. Try the keys again with the door closed.

If it still doesn't work, let me know, and feel free to send me a few good digital photos if you can.

There may be some grease or mineral deposits on the board, and that can interfere with the key operation.

Does the ge spacesaver xl1400 microwave have to mounted or can it just sit on a counter?

Theoretically JVM1400-series microwaves (XL1400 is a meaningless number they put on the ovens) can be used on a counter top, but it's really not safe because it has no feet, and it may slide and fall off the counter.

Also, it will probably not set level on a counter.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If you need mounting hardware or other parts, you can get them by by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Micriowave key panel

The part number for the Control Panel assmbly is WB07X10789, you can order it from numerous places but has it listed as a special order for 110.00. To replace it first shut for the POWER. there are usually 2 screws in the face of the grill above the door, sometimes in the top of the unit. Remove these then the grill will pull off, just above the control panel there is one screw take that out then lift up on the control and pull out on the top, control panel should come out. Be sure you keep track of the wires attached to the control and where to put them back....
Then you will need to separate the control board from the control panel . After that reverse to reassmble
