Replacement drive belts for Sony HTC-H2900 tape deck

Most belts are universal. You only need to measure the diameter of the belt in mm and search Google for cassette drive belt xx mm. Generally you don't need to get the measurement spot on. A 52mm belt for example could be replaced by a 50mm or a 55mm.

They are sold at Consolidated Electronics if you know the size and type otherwise you buy a kit from Marrs Communications

It sounds like the belt is slipping or broken which monitors the speed of the tape movement. When you play or rewind the tape, it thinks the tape has reached the end of play and shuts off. You can try a different tape to make sure the tape does not have too much tension on it. If the second tape has the same result you will need to remove the top cover of the deck to inspect the tape drive mechanism. Make sure the belts and pulleys are clean and replace any belts which have glazing or cracks. If the belt is broken you will need to replace it with a compatible belt of the same length and width.

It could be either a worn roller, but more likely a belt problem. It's often a good idea to replace the belt(s) as the are rubber and wear out easily. They are not expensive either. Drive belts on tape decks are mostly universal. You only need to measure the diameter of each belt in mm and then enter the result in Google as "Cassette drive belt ??mm".
Make a note of how it fits before replacing them, that's if you can do it yourself of course!

The belt is worn out already, so it need to be change. you can dissemble the deck then bring the tape mechanism to a shop and replace the belts.This will solve the problem.

I have just spent half a day trying to replace the drive belts in my sony twin deck unit , in the end it still didnt work as the the old rubber belt did some damage to the unit , anyway shops like **** smith or tandy stock the drive belts , take the front of the unit away from the main case there will be a plastic casing that surrounds the belts there are at least two belts, there should only be two small screws undo these and move the plastic unit forward on the plastic mounting brackets then you will see the metal wheel and the plastic wheel that you fit the belt around , its a bit fiddly but i can do it in my sleep now even though the motor died it was a good experience

i bought some today from **** smith electronic store , i paid $7.97 for a pack of ten assorted sizes

Unit may have defective idler or gear. Have serviced

Try pushing the eject button while pusshing the power button. Mine was doing the same and that is how I was able to eject the tape.
