Canon's info: To order an internal replacement part, please call 1-800-828-4040. The hours of operation are 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. EST from Monday to Friday. When calling, speak the term "order parts" when the speech routing system asks the reason for your call. You will immediately be routed to the Parts Desk for assistance.

You will likely have to buy a sub-assembly that has the card slot on it

You could send it to Canon to get fixed but since that is not the question you asked.

Call the Canon tech support line to get the part number at 1-800-OK-CANON

You can or used to be able to buy the parts directly from Canon.

You could also search ebay for a broken one as you can sometimes find an entire camera for as much as the part costs with shipping.

hope that helps!

My Canon EOS Rebel XT doesn't recognize the CF card. It recognized it earlier, but I removed it and now it won't see it. I also tried a different CF card and it didn't work.

LOOK INSIDE THE CAMERA Card SLOT AND SEE IF ALL THE PINS ARE STRAIGHT You may have bent the pins which is easy to do. If they are bent it will be a serviceman job to replace the module

Canon EOS/Rebel XT won't power up

Joe, this happened to me, just tonight... I got a new CF card and stuck it in, turned it on and one CF card flash. Completely dead from there. I found one of the CF card pins bent over, shorted out the socket and blew the mainboard fuse. I took the camera apart, found the fuse (labelled K) about under the set button area) I bridged the fuse with a bit of solder, straightened out the pin in the socket, put it all back together and it's working fine. The fuse is under the right side shield cover, it's labelled with a letter K. There is another fuse on the power inlet board (below the shutter button) and it's labelled 'P'...

CANON REBEL XT -CF card error

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, you may elect professional repair (likely more than you'd be willing to pay), or you might want to try the following.

Remove batteries and card. Use a small/skinny jeweler's flat screwdriver to bend the pin back as close as possible. The jeweler's screwdrivers that you see at the dollar store will work fine. Another tool that I sometimes use is a stiff wire with a bent hook on the end to get very flattened pins started. Take your time and use as much patience as you can muster (take a breather in between if needed). Just keep nudging it upward/straighter a "tiny bit at a time". Whatever you do, don't try to unbend it with one push/nudge, you won't be able to do it.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just as close as you can get it. When it's the best that you can get it, take your flash card and "SLOWLY" insert it. The card itself should fine-align the pin. Remove the card, and verify that the pin is still straightened. If so, reinsert the card and try it out.

Canon Rebel xt does not accept CF cards for no apparent reason

It sounds like a bent pin in the CF slot. This is not a do it yourself fix. Take it to a repair shop.

Canon Digital Rebel XT / EOS 350D

I had the same problem; I could insert the card but it wouldn't read. I Got a CF error message. I was going to get it fixed then I realised that the bent pin was touching the adjacent pin. So I intentionally broke-off the damaged pin... an now it works perfectly! Many of the pins on CF cards don't appear to function.

Obviously, only do this if the pins are touching and you can't bent the pin back straight. You could make thing worse by rummaging aroung the CF slot, but as I was going to send it away anyway, at some considerable cost, I had nothing to lose.
